Dear Colleagues,
We wish to cordially
invite you to participate as a key stakeholder and expert in the NGO sector in
a stakeholder meeting with the Estonian Water Works Association (EVEL)
delegation that will be visiting Nigeria between 5th-16th March, 2017 for
further project discussions with PAVE and other relevant stakeholders on their
proposed collaboration and support for the Pan African Vision for the
Environment (PAVE) in the development and implementation of the
Nigeria Water Education for Schools and Communities Programme.
Date: Tuesday 14th
March, 2017
Venue: WANGONeT
Office
7, Raymond Street, Off
Commercial Avenue, Sabo-Yaba, Lagos
Time: 10:00am
We are hoping through
this Stakeholders meeting (already held one in Abuja) that we will present the
logical framework of the Nigeria Water Education for Schools and Communities
Programme and engage the collaboration and support of development partners and
other relevant stakeholders including Government MDAs, NGOs as the Estonian
Water Works Association (EVEL) will not be supporting the programme 100%.
The Goal of the Nigeria
Water Education for Schools and Communities Programme.
The broad aim of the
Nigeria Water Education for Schools and Communities Programme is to promote
better understanding of water as a key social, economic and environmental
resource and to facilitate a new water-use ethic in Nigeria including the
building and installation of water and sanitation infrastructures in selected
needy schools and communities. It is about the community’s sense of duty- the
obligation members have to each other, to the use of water itself and to future
generations. The community sense of responsibility ought to be strengthened
towards the management of water and other natural resources which took billions
of years to develop and, yet, which could be diminished or exhausted within a
relatively shorter period of time. That this is highly probable is evidenced in
the population growth rate of Nigeria and, in particular, the rapid increase in
the rate of growth in urban cities in Nigeria. This programme provides an
excellent opportunity to promote this process.
Introducing the Nigeria
Water Education in Schools and Communities Programme would be strategic entry
points to:
· Develop
awareness about Water and Sanitation Sector reform and policy issues in
Nigeria;
· Develop
awareness of water and sanitation related environmental issues including water
borne diseases and open defeacation ;
· Develop
knowledge and skills necessary to analyze the issues and understanding why
people view and use water in particular ways;
· Examine
attitudes, values, and behaviours regarding consumption of water in cities;
· Identify
the underlying causes of current water oriented problems in Nigerian cities;
· Support
informed decision-making by the community that could affect the quality of
their lives with respect to water;
· Participate
actively in the sustainable management of their water environment;
· Evaluate
and propose actions that will achieve effective water related solutions in
support of water resources management.
