Dear Colleagues,

Kindly indicate if you are interested in being nominated as a volunteer member of the Jury for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize(SJWP) Nigeria Competition.

If interested, kindly make your comments and opinion on the two attached projects indicating which of the two is the best.

We will appreciate receiving your comments and opinions as soon as possible preferably by COB today or ;latest 12noon tomorrow.

Apologies for the urgency as I am aware that you are all very busy people.

Find sample comments below for your guidance :

I have now studied the two proposals:

1.       Pure Water for Life, by Sarturaki, Oshadami, Adekola
2.       Glisten air assisted reactor for water treatment, by Bello, Adewumi, Matane

Brief comments:

1.       The study is focused and convincing: It states the problem, and proposes a solution (purification using two techniques). The solution is tested and the results are presented in terms of reduction of “pollution”. The results are clearly presented based upon a lab water test before and after treatment. Furthermore, it seems to be rather easy to replicate the purification process using readily available materials.

2.       The study goes to deeper depth on the issue of water and contamination of water. But in doing that, it also loses focus and is broader than it would need, considering the “statement of purpose”. Furthermore, the result is contained in a single sentence: “this project showed that the proposed materials could efficiently remove heavy metals like Cu…”. It’s a statement without any supporting evidence, such as for example a laboratory test of the water sample before and after.

In our view, the study “Pure Water for Life”, by Sarturaki, Oshadami, Adekola, numbered 1 above, is the best proposal of the two proposals.
