Am looking into the development of a bulk-sms portal, where people can register, buy units and send bulk sms. As a developer, I would love to know the stuffs involved in developing of such platforms and do i need to build from scratch? not the design aspect but the bulk sending logic or is there any service out there i can purchase/use, and build on it?

Thanks

Hi,

Most sms portals I see this day is built on Joomla/Drupal, and they are very easy to setup.

you can check http://www.joomlasmscomponent.com/ for heads up. (just for heads up nio)

But, If you want to build from scratch you might wanna seek the help of an experience programmer.

and read up on cURL and Api

I hope this helps

Cheers

Hi Dear,

If you have to ask the question what is an SMS API, then you obviously have to read more. Google is your starting point.

However, for this solution you don't have to build anything. Just find a good SMS provider with Reseller options and good pricing. It comes with a free usable site for you and your sub-customers.

Cheers.

Thanks for your input,

I intend to build for a client, you think going the reseller way is advisable? I do the design/layout and just use the reseller account to power up the portal.

Kindly, do you know any good sms provider with reseller options? will you advise using nigeria based sms provider or find foreign ones?

Go for a reseller account...

smslive247 and gidisms seem like good sms platforms

Err...Using reseller option means you lose some flexibility in design/layout. But SAVES you enormous time. The ability to customise varies from one reseller to the other.

If you think your customer absolutely needs your NEW intended design/layout. Then you would have to code from scratch and then use a Bulk SMS API - which is basically a programming interface that allows you to carry out SMS task like send, check balance etc from code.

I INSIST you convince your CLIENT to go with option of reseller option except a business process (probably billing more DEMANDS) you code this.

Cheers again.

I personally think there's little point in re-inventing the wheel and suffering many weeks building a robust platform  for such a common service. Unless it's about pricing and some other feature that puts your platform ahead of everyone else.

@Dayo,

A lot of folks bought the extension, installed it and used different templates to make theirs different but they still run the same extension but mind you, if you are going to add extra features or make use of such, you development implementation must follow the current Joomla API version support which currently are either Joomla 2.5 or Joomla 3

Visit joomla.org for more on developing Joomla extensions

Hope this helps? Good luck pal

well smslive247 has a reseller plan but all u could do is change css color and fonts the overall platform is not accessible since you only just point your domain name to your reseller account so that's no go area only that they have a reseller plan

Thanks all, I just dont think I would go with the joomla extension coz I just dont have any experience with joomla, I never download the stuff before sef.

I talked to the guy at gidisms and they told me its very possible for me to have my own design/layout and implement that with their reseller endpoint.

I just have to convience the client to go with a reseller point, I might lose on leverage in terms of cost of development.

Just curious, if i were to develop this from scratch, could you guys point me to any good sms gateway/api? I cant seems to use google to get the right resources.

Thanks everyone once again for the help, you all being helpful.

Well, there is a bulksms api at http://supertextng.com/about-api.php

Like someone said, you'll need to know how to use cURL or other PHP
stream functions,
if you have been doing database programming before and are creative
with logic then you
are good to go, not exactly rocket science but it depends on the time
available for the project.
And remember, Mr. Google is your friend ;)
Cheers.
