Theprivate master head is located aft and to starboard in the stateroom. The space is finished in white with a molded shower pan and teak grate that covers the sump. A shower is integral to the space. The countertop stretches along the aft end, with a stainless sink and single lever faucet. There are mirrors above on the bulkhead. The head is located outboard with a medicine cabinet above. Additional storage space is available beneath the counter. From the inboard side of the head compartment, one can access the chain locker which is centrally located in the boat for weight balance and large chain capacity.

Moving aft from the master stateroom, there is a passageway with two bunks outboard. The bunks are equipped with lee cloths and are fantastic sleeping spaces while underway, or a very good storage space if an extra bunk is not needed. There are reading lamps and fans for each berth. Beneath the bottom bunk is a single drawer.

The port aft stateroom is configured with a traditional quarterberth. Two hull side windows provide lots of light and a view outside and these are equipped with shades. A shelf runs along the hull side. There are two reading lamps and an overhead light. Two opening ports, one into the cockpit, provide good ventilation. At the forward end of the cabin to port, there is a large locker with shelves (one side of this locker could be converted to hanging storage). There is also access through the watertight aft bulkhead to the steering quadrant and autopilot on the port side.

The aft head is finished in white, with a teak grate covering the shower sump. A shower is integral to the space. The electric head is located at the forward end. There are two lockers outboard. A counter with sink and pressure water faucet/shower wand is located aft. There is a large locker beneath the counter. A mirror is mounted on the aft, inboard bulkhead. There is a clothes rack for wet gear. An opening portlight provides ventilation and light.

The starboard aft cabin features two bunks, each fitted with a reading light and fan. There are fixed windows in the hull with blinds. Lee cloths are fitted to the berths. Inboard in this cabin is the auxiliary drawer freezer, additional storage in bins, and access to the inverter and battery charger. A leather cover snaps in place to conceal these items. There is also access through the watertight aft bulkhead to the steering quadrant and autopilot on the starboard side.

The deck is painted white with tan nonskid. A faux teak toe rail surrounds the deck. At the bow and stern are stainless pulpits and there are double lifelines surrounding the deck. Boarding gates are located to port and starboard with an additional gate to the transom aft. At the bow, there is a massive storage and sail locker that is separated from the main cabins via a welded watertight bulkhead. A chain rinse pump and hose are located here.

t: period in semesters the deal stays in the fund portfolio. For thenon-censored observations, it corresponds to the holding period. Weestimated it as the difference in semesters between entry date andexit day. Exit rate should increase with t. For the censoredinformation, t was estimated as the difference between entry dateand the last day the data was collected: March 1st,2015.

HOT_PE: a dummy variable with value 1 if the month of the exit is hotfor the Brazilian stock market and 0 if it is cold. We classifiedthe month as hot for the financial market if the price-earningsratio of that month is higher than the average of the price-earningsratio of the last twelve months, and observed that 77 companies hadexit in HOT_PE and 104 in cold ones.

HOT_PE NAIC: a dummy variable with value 1 if the month of the exitis hot for the specific sector of the corresponding company, and 0otherwise. We aggregated all stocks of the financial sector (NAIC52) and classified the month as hot for the financial market if theprice-earnings ratio of that month is higher than the average of thePrice-Earnings ratio of the last twelve months. We repeated the sameprocedure for all other sectors, aggregating by the first digit ofthe NAIC. There are 73 deals with exit in hot months and 108 in coldones.

HOT_IPO: a dummy variable with value 1 if the month of the exit has anumber of IPOs higher than the average in the 6 previous months. Wecollected the number of IPOs in the month from CVM. There are 60exits in hot IPO markets and 121 exits in cold IPO ones.

HOT_FX: a dummy variable with value 1 if the month of the exit has aBrazilian real appreciation against the US dollar higher than theaverage in the 6 previous months. We used the Ptax (USDollar-Brazilian Real offer exchange rate disclosed by the BrazilianCentral Bank) to calculate the monthly Brazilian real appreciation. There are 84 exits in moments of current high appreciation, and 97in low appreciation or currency devaluation.

HOT_IR: a dummy variable with value 1 if the month of the exit has aninterest rate higher than the average in the 6 previous months. There are 81 exits in moments of high interest rate and 100otherwise. We used the SELIC as a proxy for the Brazilian interestrate.

AGE: proxy for experience of the PE firm at the time of theinvestment. It is measured as the difference in years between the PEfirm founding year and the year in which the investment occurred. Anexperienced PE has higher connections with investment banks and hasbeen engaged in many M&A and IPO deals. Therefore, it should beable to better exploit windows of opportunities (Stromberg, 2008).

TICKET: value in dollars of the investment made by the PE firm whenacquiring the stake of the portfolio company. It is a proxy for thelife stage of the company. Funds focused on SMEs have a higherprobability to exit by selling its stake to funds focused on largercompanies (Jenkinson & Souza,2015).

CONTROL: dummy variable that equals 1 if the PE firm has a controlstake in the portfolio company and 0 otherwise. When acquiring thecontrol of the company, the PE fund has to pay a control premium. Weexpect that control deals stay longer in the fund portfolio, becausethe value creation plans are more aggressive to compensate for thehigher entry price, thus demanding a longer implementation time(Valkama, Maula, Niloskelainen,& Wright, 2013).

INV_TIME: the time difference in semesters between the date of thefirst deal of the fund and the entry date of the observation. Incase the observation corresponds to the first deal of the fund, thisvariable has value 0. It is a proxy for the interval of time betweenfund inception and the investment date. The larger it is, theshorter the distance until the expiration date of the fund, andconsequently the higher the pressure to exit (Jenkinson & Souza, 2015).

Private Equity (PE) funds are active investors. Besides providing capital, they improve the governance, operational performance and innovation of the investee companies. However, potential misalignment between the fund manager and the company owner regarding exit timing is a limitation of the model. PE funds have a finite-life, and thus they have to liquidate investments after holding them for a certain period. They tend to time the market to exploit favorable market conditions and obtain higher selling prices, and consequently, PE funds may divest before accomplishing the value creation plan. In this article, we use the hazard model to investigate the magnitude of the impact of market conditions on the exit rate of PE deals in Brazil, a volatile emerging economy, and if it increases the chances of exiting investments with holding periods shorter than two years. We analyze a sample of 470 PE deals invested between 1994 and 2014, and we investigate four variables related to market conditions: the stock market price-earnings ratio, the number of IPOs, the Brazilian real (the Brazilian currency) appreciation against the US dollar and the Brazilian interest rate. Our results show that favorable market conditions more than double the exit rate and increase the probability of quick flips.
