It looks like it will be dry enough for several days of riding. Ellie and I rode our trail last night and it is good to go. I have spent a lot of time weed-eating the trail and it is pretty clear except for a few places that I have yet to do.
For those of you who haven't heard, we have added a new section of trail just up the road from the bottom of our current trail. You will see an exit from our trail at the bottom near the apartment building parking lot entrance. Go up hill on Valley Street for about .14 miles and enter on the left side just after the house with the carport.
The new trail needs riding in to compact the tread and it might need some additional benching after it is ridden more, but otherwise it is ready to go. Several riders have been on it already. While there are no signs, it is a blue trail and the goal was to make it easy enough for most riders with some experience (and a willingness to put a foot down occasionally), but hard enough to provide some skills development. Currently it is about .85 miles long so if you start at the current trailhead and ride both the old and new trails out and back, you will have ridden about 4 miles on the red trail or 3.5 miles on the blue trail.
As time becomes available, there is room to add at least 3 more miles of trails there. If this happens at all this year, it will be due to community trail building days as I do not have time available right now to do the clearing and benching required to reach additional land for the trail.
The current trail head is at 920 E State Street near the top of Ninth Street hill. If you have not ridden here before, please sign a liability form. The red trail contains all of the most difficult parts and the blue trail has been re-worked to make it technically less difficult and easier to get up from the bottom, but it is still a climb for those not in good condition.
See you on the trail,
Bob Haan
