I've talked to several riders on the trail and many have not heard about the bike ride/celebration . If you know someone who is not on this list, would you please let them know. We have no way of contacting riders except through google groups and those who contact other members of groups they are in. Thanks to Amy Olsen of the Purdue Outdoor Club and Joe Wetli for helping with this. I talked to a rider who is a member of a group that regularly does rides, and I would appreciate it of someone would forward this email to their members. I think this group operates through Zoe at Virtuous Cycles.
We have firmed up more of our plans:
This Sunday, October 21 at 3:00 at our house at 920 E. State Street, Lafayette.
This is an open celebration and anyone interested in mountain biking (whether or not they ride with the group) is welcome. We also have some friends and relatives coming who do not yet know the joy of mountain biking.
The group bike ride will start at 3:00 after we get organized. Everyone capable of riding the trail is welcome to join in. We will leave in two groups about two minutes apart. Leaving first will be the advanced riders. Not far behind will be the riders that want to skip the Plunges for sure and maybe some of the other red sections. We should join together just after the red trail riders come from the Plunges. I have modified the back part of the Valley Street section so that most of it will serve as the turn-around loop and we should be able to complete the first lap with the group not meeting any oncoming riders. There will be time for another lap for those wishing to do so.
The musicians will set up earlier and the music should start about 3:30 to 4.
The hog roast should be ready to start serving about 4:30 and dessert will be cake and a make-your-own sundae bar.
Soft drinks, water, lemonade, and beer (21 and over please) will be available at 3. Beer will be available to riders after the ride but not before please.
I will set up a mountain biking obstacle course for kids and adults. Kids can ride this while we are gone if they bring a bike and helmet. After I get back from the ride I will give some instructions to the kids about how to ride the obstacles to help them develop the proper techniques. I view this as a mini-mountain bike lesson. I have ramps of two heights, a board to ride on, logs of 3 heights to ride over, an up and down hump, and simulated trees to ride between.
Everyone is welcome.
Hope to see you Sunday afternoon.
