Anyone out there using the DVR from LUSFiber? Every recording so far
ends up with the video and audio out of sync. Interestingly enough
when I hit pause, the video goes on for 2-3 more seconds, obviously
catching up with where the audio was.

I'm on hold with LUS now, but thought I'd ask here as well.

Tried it the other day and had the same problem for a minute or two
then it caught up. Supposedly LUS went with cheaper boxes than the
ones they're using in Tennessee which is a little disappointing.

So spoke to a operator. She said that they had some reports of issues
with HDMI. I'm actually seeing issues now on live TV as well. Tomorrow
I'm going to see if I can dig up my component cables, and I've got a
tech coming out in a week. Was a bit disappointed it was going to take
7 days, but when I asked that my bill be reduced, they said they would
take care of it.

Speaking of boxes - I wish to hell they had a box with a clock on it.

Did you actually find info online for it? Google didn't turn up
anything relevant as far as I could see.

Thank you sir.

I'll let folks know if the component cables help - and I'll ping back
after the tech comes next week.

you know with Cox that's an issue as well. I was told they didn't "support" hdmi even though their box had a connection for it. The support person made me plug in component cables to make sure i still had the problem which i did.... just thought it was interesting they don't support it.

Maybe cheap was the wrong word there.  The tech said they're very sensitive and due to noise, they have to run all new cables with new connectors for installs.  According to him, the other boxes perform better with more noise.  I'm not knocking LUS though, I've been happy with the service so far.

Cox told me that as well. I was a bit surprised since I had _asked_
for an HDMI box.

FYI, to be clear, LUS didn't say they didn't support HDMI, just that
they knew about an issue with it. I certainly don't mind going to
component (if I can find em) if it helps. I'm missing my daily soap I
DVR. (And now I've lost all geek cred I'm sure.)

FWIW I have no problems with my Cox motorola box as far as audio/video out of sync and it's HDMI.

Update:

Service has been near perfect as far as I can tell the last few days.
No horrible video/audio sync on recordings or live tv.
Tech came by and said many people were having issues with HDMI, and
that it was specifically a hardware issue.
Setup component cables.

If I don't come back bitchin', then you know it's fine. ;)

Oh, I asked about the new firmware (really hate the UI, I can live
with it, but ick), and he said in February they will be giving out new
hardware. It's actually the same STB, but with new software. He said
they considered pushing the update over the wire but that ended up not
being a viable option. New customers will get the boxes first (sigh),
and then they will bring new boxes to existing customers. Would be
nice if I could schedule/get a warning - I'd be sure to catch up on my
recordings.

How are you playing your audio? I use component video and optical audio
out and the sound drops regularly on all HD stations, whether the STB is
set for Dolby out or stereo out. The drops are of short duration, much
less than a beat, but are very noticeable when music is playing.

I don't do anything at all with the audio - straight via HDMI, and now
via component.

So you're using HDMI for audio and component cables for video?

No, sorry, I'm using only component. Before, only HDMI.

-ugh-

It returned - to live TV and recorded. Just CBS so far, which is where
I saw it before initially. I don't think it turned out great, but I
actually took video of it:

At the end, you can see where I pause and the video just keeps moving.
(Yes, its a soap opera, don't judge me.)

I'm going to call LUS this morning. I'll put up with this for another
few weeks, demand the new box, and if there isn't an improvement, I'm
moving my video back to Cox. I had a lot of issues with Cox, but for
the most part, recently, they were solid.

Is anyone using a TiVo Series3 or TiVoHD with LUS? I'm pretty sure there won't be a problem with the analog and digital channels, but I'm not sure how HD will work. The installer will be here any minute, but so far nobody at LUS had an answer

So far, very little luck on TiVo. Analog only, and trying to control
the set top box with an IR Blaster for my TiVo LiquidTV isn't working
either..
The STB is pretty disappointing too.

Does anyone have any news on CableCARDs coming from LUS?

Glad to find a forum that has some info concerning Lusfiber issues.
It's nice to get some feedback. Sometimes I think I'm the only one
after speaking with tech support.

AT&T U-verse (IPTV based, like Lusfiber) uses these boxes and they
have a nice, relatively problem free user interface based on Microsoft
Media Room. You can Look at the AT&T site for DVR info it and see
what is possible without having problems. I think Lusfiber just tried
to save some money and didn't get the promised performance from the
original vendor. Shocking, I know.

I had an interior cable issue, too. Lots of artifacts and sound
problems. The service guy was real good. Turns out they didn't check
signal quality during the install. That's real important due to the
amount of traffic on the system. It's less tolerant to minor issues.
Found out 2 TV's needed filters and the installer didn't adequately
tighten the cable to DVR connection. Much better after fixing that.

I'm still having all the issues listed in this thread on an occasional
basis. No need to go into detail as the new firmware should make
things much better. I'll just wait and see. Oh yea, while chatting
with a tech about DVR issues, she ran an error check on the DVR. She
said there were 60+ errors found and corrected. No further info
available to her, but a few things may be working better. Still not
good.

I was ready to try Tivo and was told that there are no cable cards for
use with it. That means it's just a tuner/recorder for channels
1-88. No HD, video on demand or menu. All the more reason to hope
they buy some good firmware for this box. Maybe there will be cable
cards for the new firmware. Personally, I don't really need Tivo.
Something that is fairly simple that works will be fine.

Assuming your signal quality is ok, the cable issue as it relates to
sound problems seems a little fishy to me. I know all my cabling is
ok and I still have the sync and breakup issues. I have HDMI from the
DVR to the TV and optical audio from the DVR to the AV tuner. If ya
get out of sync while watching TV, you can flip to another channel and
flip right back to what you are watching. Fixes it every time. This
is a good indication that the DVR is having a buffer problem, not a
cable problem.

I read that AT&T was having the same problem and they think its cuz
some networks occasionally send out the voice stream faster than the
box can handle it. They are looking for a way to slow it down.

As to HD cable support, you can use either the HDMI or the Component
video (3 cables from the Green, Blue, Red jacks on the DVD) to the TV
and get HD video. Neither provides for audio, although the HDMI is
designed to provide audio. That's what is not supported by the DVD.
You will need to use the Red and White Audio out RCA jacks or the
Optical Out jack to the TV to get sound.

I'm glad to see that LUS is stepping up to fix the DVR. I like their
quality and service a lot.
