As of right now I have gone over the forum and found a few people are having some difficulties connecting their controllers to gSender for use. My goal is to find out what types of controllers you guys use, what the problems with them are, and how I further solve them. I know some of you guys really love using them to control your machines (as do i) and hope to help you guys out as best I can here!

I dont have a controller but would love to have one. Will Sienci be offering in the near future? If so, I will wait on it. If not, what can you recommend as the best possible controller for the longmill. I use windows 10 PC. Thank you.

When creating the gamepad support on gSender, I did in fact use the Logitech F710 gamepad for testing and it seemed to work fine for me. I did some tests by installing the latest version of gSender on a few other computers and connecting the controller to them to see if I was able to find any connection issues and was not able to find anything.

When connecting the Logitech controller for the first time on Windows 10, it installed the driver automatically, then gSender was able to recognize it when attempting to create a joystick/gamepad profile. These are the windows notifications I got when doing so:

You can double check that your controller is connected properly by checking the bluetooth and other devices settings and verifying your controller shows up in the list somewhere. Additionally you can check the device manager settings on your PC and see if your controller shows up there as well, which it should.

Would I be able to use my TM HOTAS joystick in connection with the Longmill as an offline controller? Or is this strictly for using software already present and using the controller/joystick as a jogging tool?

I do have a question, and that is to ask you for a bit of clarification. If you are asking if a game controller can replace the Long Mill controller, I am pretty sure that the answer is no. The Mill controller is comprised of an Arduino Uno control board, drivers for the motors and other control components. A joystick will not replace them.

However, gSender is capable of being controlled by joysticks and game controllers. They can take the place of the gui controls in on the gSender interface. The joystick may be able to be used to run gcode sender of choice. For example, I believe that UGS can accommodate joystick controllers.

I am simply wondering if, a joystick control with trigger switches, can be used in conjunction with the Longmill controller to add a more responsive and accurate jogger without being tied to any other program designed for CNC milling, or if the joystick and triggers can be set up with the Longmill controller to control the entirety of the Longmill from jogging through to milling without the need of any software.

I do quite enjoy the machine, and it is very accurate with small pieces provided the end mill is the correct size to application. It has been a very welcome addition alongside the plasma and laser cutters in my shop, and it get used almost as much.

@BrandonEvMc Sorry for the delay in replying, Brandon. Several members here are using joysticks/game controllers to control XY and Z movements. Higher up in this thread, @Megistus (Wayne) and @Menglor (Stephen) mention the ones that they are using and the software that they use with them. If you have a specific unit that you want to use and it is not one already mentioned, post the make and model and someone may well be able to set you up.

Yes thanks for pointing that one out, there does seem to be some inconsistencies with jog cancel needing to be invoked in certain situations. I have a few ideas on how to fix this problem now that I reviewed the implementation again, will test them out this week and update you and everyone else here on my progress!

Wondering what joysticks will be compatible with this machine. I already have a couple of USB controllers. Would those work? Looks like the would on the standard Buildbotics controller, but it sounds like there might be some differences with this version.

does the joystick that you sell have any extra capabilities over using a generic joystick/gamepad ?
TBH i bought the gamepad from onefinitycnc just on the reason you guys gave for free the files to 3d print the boom and instructions. (yes i own ps* and xbox controlers) but i figured you guys gave me that boom to 3d print im willing to spend a bit more so i bought the gamepad. would be cool to see a extra feature in the gamepad only to the cnc

I have a problem because I cannot get my controller to work with COD while works well with BOS. I went to the above link and it was identified as an X-box One controller, what I should do next? Many thanks in advance for any support.

My gosh, why is this so difficult? I have spent now 3 hours trying to get the game to even recognize my Logical Extreme 3D. I did all the Steam configs and checks and it recognizes the joystick just fine. win10 sees it no problems but it is invisible to COD Blitz. I am not a programmer and I find working this hard to config a game the definition of boring and frustrating. Can I just download a basic config file somewhere and play?

This game will not assign buttons and axes automatically for any joystick, neither the "config" done by someone with the same joystick will help, because a unique ID number created by Windows for identify joystick is used.

Button on top of your joystick should control weapons (MG, cannons) and camera views, zoom,... not things like landing gear, canopy...set this in buttons on base, if want, but prioritize buttons for important things like propeller pitch adjust, that will be used frequently and not 1 or at best 2 times per flight like landing gear, canopy.

But assign axes and buttons is just like in any other game, select a command, e.g. "Aileron" click in the box in the pop-up window, move joystick side to side, click APLY and so on for other commands.

I finally got my older MS Sidewinder 2 to work in and out of steam. Only solution that worked for me was to go directly into game and map the joystick in the control option in game. In plane portion I would highlight what action I wanted for JS and moved or pressed button as appropriate . Saved and applied to game and everything works.

Amazing that in 2021 we need to go through so many hoops to get a joystick to work on a flight sim. I played games in the eighties that were better engineered for joysticks. The software publisher should fix this in an update once and for all and Steam should make them. Silly. An expensive flight sim that does not support a joystick off the shelf. Also I do not understasnd why some of their games work well with Joysticks, while others like Dover do not. So after trying everything suggested many times, incluidng the so call fix joystick app from the publisher, I cannot get my Logitech Extreme 3D to work, and I work in IT. Pathetic. Why did they release a flight sim that doesn't work with joysticks??? Come on software development team, really? Making users do their jobs. The game should be way cheaper for this dumb waste of their customer's time. Come on Steam, go to bat for your customers!!!. I have bought so many Steam games but now I am just fed up. Steam needs more competition!

Another important thing. You must connect your controllers to the same USB ports or the game detects them as alternative devices and you will either have to remap/rebind them (or use a program like notpad++ to search and replace all the new device ids with the old ones (confUser.ini file)

I prefer the approch used by il-2 Gb which uses GUIDs stored in the devices.txt file so its very easy to reassign the device id to the joystick id used in game if you forgot which usb ports you may have previously connected that device(s) to. So if you do unplug them from the computer beware!( I have 3 dif controllers in my game)

I suspect this is probably not something easy to change without a complete code rewrite because of the old programming interface used in this game (and a lot of work to fix, because its a pre windows 10 inferface ).

Have you taken the time to read the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide'? This has a detailed outline of how to get a joystick working along with solutions for typical errors in player or PC settings.

I'm in the same boat. Windows 10 Steam Version. Using the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The new Joystick wizard sees the Joystick and I can see inputs. But when you launch the COD Blitz there is no joystick love. I have tried the Steam "Disable Steam Input" see attached screed shot. All other games are no problem.
