Alldelegates (whether they are remote or coming in-person to Guangzhou) are encouraged to use the online platform vldb.delegateconnect.co As well as watching live stream of sessions, here one can interact with other delegates, connect to sponsors, and watch recordings of each session, starting from a day or so after the session, and maintained available for at least a month. If you go to this platform, you can login with the email address you used to register for the conference (the first time, you can just indicate "forgot password"). This is also where one can ask questions of a speaker, if you are not in the room at the venue in Guangzhou.

VLDB is a premier annual international forum for data management, scalable data science and database researchers, vendors, practitioners, application developers, and users. The VLDB 2024 conference features more than 250 research talks, eleven keynote & invited talks, two panels, nine tutorials, over 40 demonstrations, and 10 workshops, including the VLDB PhD Workshop. It covers issues in data management, database architectures, graph data management, data privacy and security, data mining, machine learning, AI and database systems research - all essential technological cornerstones of the emerging applications of the 21st century.

It is organised as an in person conference, it is open to in-person participants and speakers. For in-person participants, there will be many opportunities for learning, networking and serendipitous personal meetings, as well as the delights of the China.

Shuttle Information 25-27: The VLDB2018 organization will provide shuttles from the Int'l Airport Antonio Carlos Jobim to the Windsor Barra/Ocean Hotels on the 25th, 26th and 27th of August, from 5:00 to 24:00, at each full hour interval. There will be receptionists on two VLDB2018 booths at the airport receiving VLDB2018 attendees. One will be located in the baggage claim area and the other at the arrival hall. The receptionist at the arrival hall will gather groups and guide them to the shuttle.

Transport Information 18-24: The VLDB2018 organization will provide transportation from attendees arriving between the 18th and 24th of August. People arriving on these days are requested to fill in their arrival date/time-flight information at the link sent to you by the organization.

Despite the fact that there has not been a single Yellow fever infection in the city of Rio de Janeiro, cases have been reported in towns 100km from the city. We further call participants attention that to be effective the vaccine must be taken 10 days before their arrival to Brazil.

We would like to call the attention of VLDB2018 participants with US citizenship that a VISA is required for their entrance in Brazil.

VLDB is a premier annual international forum for data management and database researchers, vendors, practitioners, application developers, and users. The VLDB 2018 conference will feature research talks, tutorials, demonstrations, and workshops. It will cover issues in data management, database and information systems research, since they are the technological cornerstones of the emerging applications of the 21st century.

As detailed in Synchronizing the VLDB and Volume Headers, The Volume Location (VL) Server locks the Volume Location Database (VLDB) entry for a volume before the Volume Server executes any operation on it. No other operation can affect a volume with a locked VLDB entry, so the lock prevents the inconsistency or corruption that can result from multiple simultaneous operations on a volume.

To verify that a VLDB entry is locked, issue the vos listvldb command as described in To display VLDB entries. The command has a -locked flag that displays locked entries only. If the VLDB entry is locked, the string Volume is currently LOCKED appears on the last line of the volume's output.

To lock a VLDB entry yourself, use the vos lock command. This is useful when you suspect something is wrong with a volume and you want to prevent any changes to it while you are investigating the problem.

To unlock a locked VLDB entry, issue the vos unlock command, which unlocks a single VLDB entry, or the vos unlockvldb command, which unlocks potentially many entries. This is useful when a volume operation fails prematurely and leaves a VLDB entry locked, preventing you from acting to correct the problems resulting from the failure.
