Dear Esteemed LACSOP Members,
I trust you are all well.
We believe it is essential to share important information regarding changes in the development landscape in Nigeria.
There is an increasing demand for the regulation of civil society for a few reasons:
First, that CSOs are expected to hold themselves to the same standards of transparency and accountability as the government. Secondly, the heightened terrorist activities in the country and different parts of the world has drawn attention to the fact that wide funding variations available can make CSOs vulnerable to terrorist's funding.
The upside to this new terrain is that civil society now has the opportunity to grow in its legitimacy, influence and consequently impact voice for change.
For this reason, we call on our members to strive to meet the standards being set to legitimize our members.
In the coming weeks, we shall be requesting that you
(1) Complete your SCUML registration, certification and reporting
(2) Ensure that your CAC registration and Annual reports are up to date.
(3) Ensure your registration status with LACSOP is up to date
We understand this information may cause some apprehension, and we do not want our members to be affected by the consequences of non-compliance.
Therefore, we will be providing some support to help members navigate this terrain.
Please watch this space for information that will be shared.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dede Kadiri
Executive Secretary
