Are there any plans to start resuming the LUG meet ups?

Good to hear from you Mike!

I would definitely be interested in getting these meet ups going again.

What can I do to help?

Greetings and salutations LINUX users.  I have a hint for a subject.   I just bought the Raspberry P400 and barely have it out of the box yet.  Had to send off for a cable to go from midi to VGA and it's not here yet.  I think I just said that wrong.   :)  anyway I for one need all the help I can get.  Always have been slow on these subjects.  Have another raspberry pi that I thought it would be fun to program a pi with a pi.

While I'm here I have a friend that would like to get an older machine.  Something like one that will run dos on it.  His needs are for programming ham radio tranceivers I told him I would ask around.  What he has is too fast for the radio to except the.programming.

One last question when I bought the p400 I also bought the break out thingie and the small tft screen.  I'm not sure if you can use that screen and do the programming of the second pi too.  Are the gpio pins needed being used?

Thanks and hope everyone is having a great summer
Stay safe
Bill
PS  I did go to adafruit and Google but did not find my answers.  I know google.is your friend...   :)

Greetings fellow Linuxians.  Well, here we are in 2022.  I too am wondering when we might be able to start meetups again.  The 1st year of COVID19 saw my wife and I staying away from all restaurants, bars, or any other public place where attendance was optional (even when they were open).  Eventually the vaccine came out and we have both been fully vaccinated.  Although we still avoid places which have cramped quarters / large groups of people, we otherwise have returned pretty much to normal.  I for one think it would be great if meetings were resumed again.

How many others are ready to get back to it if we start again?  If there is enough interest in attendance but no one able to get arrangements made I could see what I can do.  I'm not experienced really in such organizing but I'm not afraid to try.  I anticipate that any venues I check out will want to know typical attendance expectations for one thing.  So let's start with that question and if responses warrant it, additional questions will be put forth to help inform what places might be a good fit or not.

I just had a thought that maybe I should have started this in a new thread since this one is a bit necrotic, but it is the latest one one and the topic is spot on so I guess I'll leave it right here and see what happens.

Earlier this evening I attended a zoom meeting with the Minnesota solar energy club and just now a zoom meeting with the Sierra Club.  It's colder than cold out so why do I want to get in my car to drive somewhere when all the non-computer oriented clubs are on zoom?  Why is lclug the only club not on zoom?

     To Bill's question, I don't know about Raspberry Pi but know about Arduinos and their programming.  Zoom (or alternatives) would work to teach about that.

Hey all.  Uhm yeah... personally I think in person has much more to offer than webcam.  But I also think that for sure, virtual is better than nothing.  Given this is a Linux group though, I am a bit surprised at the readiness to jump on the Zoom train.  Here is just one link as to the reasons why I would wish to avoid using it.  I'm sure there are other potential virtual meeting software candidates; though I would want to research it a little before recommending one.

So this is what I'm seeing so far on the meeting resumption question:

LCLUG RESUMPTION of MEETING PREFERENCES

MEMBER                     | PHYSICAL  | VIRTUAL        |  NO INTEREST
=================|==========|===========|==============
MJWhiteDerm            |          T          |          T            |             F
=================|==========|===========|==============
Pete Gruendeman     |           ?          |          T            |             F

PS: Pete, there's no such thing as cold.  There is only the absence of heat!  :-)

PS: I'm looking at Jami as a possible virtual solution, in case that's (the | a) route that ends up being taken.

A virtual meeting sounds good to me.  In person would be best, but it's too far for me.  (rick)

I thought a member of this group set up a locally-hosted
https://jitsi.org/ maybe last year?

I can also offer a Big Blue Button site from https://www.meet.coop/
where I am a member. I'm also a member of https://meet.mayfirst.org/
which hosts jitsi sessions.

Hi All,
I'm hoping I can attend a few meetings this year. I'm in for a zoom meeting or an in-person meeting (but zoom would be easier for me to attend).

Just to let all of you know, I'm testing the Jami software.  It's supported on all major platforms, is private, free, and has no limits imposed on file sizes or anything else, no ads, no strings attached.  It's part of the GNU project, just like Linux itself.  It is a little trickier to set up than some but not tough by any means.  I want to explore it a bit more to see if it is suitable for our use.  I might ask for a volunteer or two to try a video meeting.  If you are up for a test let me know and we can work out the details later.

Here's where we are currently:
