No, this isn't SPAM. :o)
Since several of us are into vintage computers (sometimes out of
economic necessity :o), I thought this might be interesting.

If you haven't heard of the Xerox Alto, it was developed in 1973 and
is the ancestor of all computers that use a GUI and mouse for user
interaction. It was also the first computer with "ethernet".

There's one for sale on eBay (auction ends today):

Oops, I forgot to say that the tinyurl links to the site above because
some email clients break up long URLs.

The Alto was one of the first computers with a GUI Bill Gates got his
hands on I think. I haven't watched Pirates of Silicon Vally in a while,
but I think the Alto is the one that Xerox showed to Steve Jobs, who
showed it to Gates then gave him one. It's the predecssor to Mac OS and
Windows. :)

Um, yeah, bidding is at $5,103 - not sure I want to spend that for this
computer. :) Wish I had one though...

Indeed it is. And if you watch the promo clip closely, you'll notice why it
caused the first-known case of pathogen transmission by keyboard. ;o)
