Hey Linux folks,

Call for presentations. Is there anyone who would like to present? I have a few topics I could speak on, but they would not be full length presentations. Does anyone want to give a tech news round up?

An item I am marginaly interested in is the  Linux subsystem for Windows. Is this just running Linux in a VM or something else and maybe useful?

Ed.

Ditto for me.  What is this thing?  I have a windows 10 box, is it capable of running Linux in this manner?

I'm certainly no expert, but what I do know about the Windows Subsystem for
Linux is this:

Specifically Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2) runs your choice of several
Linux distros in a HyperV (i.e. Windows) virtual machine. That Linux VM is
tightly coupled in some way with the host Windows 10 instance so file sharing
between the two is supposedly straight forward. I've only ever run the
original WSL (not version 2). WSL2 is not the default, you have to follow
specific instructions to get WSL2.

Some folks I pay attention to are suggesting Windows might be "the best Linux
desktop experience" (only a little tongue-in-cheek)...

In related news, I see that Richard Stallman (RMS) (founder of the Free
Software Foundation) recently gave a talk about Free Software on the Microsoft
campus. I also see that the Free Software Foundation announced yesterday that
RMS has resigned his positions as president and board member of the FSF. Are
these 2 events linked? Enquiring minds want to know(tm)...

I'll not be at this month's meeting.

I do not have any experience with the Linux sub-system on Windows 10, either. I won't be able to speak to that. If anyone does, we'd love to hear from you!

What I can do is give a short overview of Pop OS, developed by System 76.

Search for
Stallman must go

This is all about Epstein and MIT and Stallman's comments on Epstein.
