Amayauses different configuration files to get initial values for globalparameters, dialogs, shortcuts, window size and position, user's style sheet, and so on. You can change most configuration parameters through variouspreferences dialogs.
By default only one instance of Amaya is allowed to run at a time. Each newinvocation is redirected to the running instance. This option can be changed bysetting the environment variable AMAYA_MULTIPLE_INSTANCES=yes.
Amaya stores most of the default configuration files (fonts, shortcuts andpreferences files,) and all of the dialog messages in the config directory. This directory's parent is the one in which Amaya was installed.
Amaya stores the user preferences and other user configuration files in adirectory called AmayaHome. An existing directory could be selected by the userusing the system environment variable AMAYA_USER_HOME. OtherwiseAmaya selects a default position.
In General preferences a menu allows you to choose theprofile that meets your needs (Lite, Lite+Web, etc.). The chosen profile is notapplied immediately when pressing the Apply button. You haveto restart Amaya to activate the new profile.
Font Zoom. You can zoom in and out, document window bydocument window. Each document (text and images) displayed within a zoomedwindow will be displayed larger or smaller than its real size according to thecurrent zoom. This option enables you to change the font zoom for all windows. This change affects only font sizes but not image sizes, and is reflectedimmediately in all open document windows.
Preserve lines when pasting. This option concerns thepasting form an external application. When that option is active, Amaya keepslines in the source application. If not active, newline charactersare replaced by spaces. This option is immediately effective.
Double-click activates link. Since the first version ofAmaya, users double-click a link to activate it. This enables you to choosewhether to edit a link or activate it. You can override this behavior bydeactivating this option.
If a document exists in different languages and your server is configured todo language negotiation, you can use this dialog to enter your languagepreferences (the first one has the highest priority). Try browsing this press release, which is available in French, English, and Japanese versions. By changing thelanguage negotiation to the ISO codes for the above languages(fr, en, or ja) you cantransparently request any of these versions.
The Publishing preferences dialog lets you set preferencesfor ETAGS and preconditions, whether to verify each PUT command with a GET, setthe default name for URLs ending with a slash, and enable PUT redirections onspecified domains. These options are explained below.
Add the xsl stylesheet for MathML elements. Generate a callto a xsl stylesheet able to transform included MathML elements into externalobjects. This xsl stylesheet was developed by the MathML working group to makeInternet Explorer able to display this kind of compound documents.
Use the application/xhtml+xml MIME type for XHTMLdocuments. This option, if enabled, associated the new, official XHTMLMIME type to all new XTHML documents that are published on the Web. This optionis disabled by default because not all servers can handle this MIME type at thetime of this release, Note that this requires also a change in your serverconfiguration, if it's not storing somewhere the metadata associated with eachdocument. This option does not modify the MIME type of existing documents: theMIME type that is received is the same one that will be used when saving thedocument, except if you do a Save as operation, of course.
Use ETAGS and preconditions. HTTP/1.1 introduces newheaders that avoid the lost updates problemwhen publishing. With this option, you can detect conflicts when two users arepublishing the same document.
Verify each PUT with a GET. If you don't trust your server, this option tells Amaya to retrieve each document as soon as it has beenpublished and compare it with the copy stored in your workstation. If thedocuments differ, Amaya will warn you.
An HTTP server usually associates URLs that finish in '/' with a defaultname, for example, Overview.html. This option enables you to specify thedefault name that Amaya should use when publishing such a URL. Ask yourWebmaster for the default name for your server.
According to the HTTP/1.1 specification, PUT operations should not beautomatically redirected unless it can be confirmed by the user, because thismight change the conditions under which the request was issued. You can avoidhaving Amaya prompt with a PUT redirection warning by entering the name of theserver's domain to which you are publishing. You may specify one or moredomains, each separated with a space, e.g.,
www.w3.orggroucho.marx.edu.
Amaya provides a cache through libwww. The cache is enabled by default andis stored in the AmayaTemp/libwww-cache directory. This tab also provides aFlush Cache button for erasing the cache directory.
Amaya allows you to store the connection data typed in the authenticationdialog. These data are the user's name and user's passwordassociated to a server name/realm name pair.
HTTP proxy.Identifies the proxy to be used for HTTPrequests. You must specify the full name of the server. If the server isrunning in a port other than 80, then, like in a URL, you need to add a ":"char to the proxy name, followed by the port number. The table below providestwo examples.
This setting defines the server to which the annotations are posted. Localannotations are always saved to the local repository, and by default, thissetting is empty. The post server is not automatically included in the list ofservers, so you should enter the post server name in both places.
A list of servers Amaya should contact when looking for annotations. You canspecify one or more servers. The reserved server namelocalhost tells Amaya to search the local annotations, butdoes not necessarily mean that a local annotation server is running (or itwould show a complete URL ).Under Unix, the annotation servers are specified asa space separated list. Under Windows, you can add a new server name byclicking in the Annotations servers list, pressing the Enter key,and then typing the server name . By default, this list is initialized tolocalhost.
Autoload local annotations. Whether Amaya should requestlocal annotations automatically every time you browse a new Web page. If it isnot checked, then you can manually choose Load annotationsfrom the Tools/Annotations submenu.
Autoload remote annotations. Whether Amaya should requestremote annotations automatically (by querying the annotation server) every timeyou browse a new Web page. If it is not checked, then you can manually chooseLoad annotations from the Tools/Annotationssubmenu.
Disable remote autoload at each startup (for offline work).Whether Amaya should reset the autoload remoteannotationsoption at launch time. This option can be useful if you areworking offline, but still want to autoload the local annotations as well asthe remote ones.
Sparrowhawks are very instinct driven bird, and as such will not learn quickly to adapt to new situations like being held captive. These birds react to stimuli without thinking, so one has to make sure that these birds cannot injure themselves whilst being in captivity. For this species specific reason, but also due to her brain injury, Amaya has been transferred immediately into a quit and slightly darkened hospital box, where she could rest undisturbed. This dark and quiet hospital box is very important for the recovery, as this can prevent convulsions induced by the trauma. If the bird is restless, it might also be sometimes necessary to apply a tail sheath or guard, which will be fitted to protect the tail feathers.
Amaya has three mailing lists that you are more thanwelcome to use! Before you send mail to these lists, please check out thearchives or the FAQ - they often contain goodinformation about how to solve problems. Please do not send mail directly tothe authors - the mail load is already rather high and you will most probablyget a better response time by using the following mailing lists:
A public mailing list for users - This is the official forum where weannounce new Amaya releases. It's also a place for submitting bug reports, forproposing enhancements to Amaya, and for discussing installation andconfiguration problems. An archive is availableat the following URL:
More than two months after a small-town police officer was wrongly charged in the shooting spree that left one person dead and two others injured, officials said they would wait for additional forensics tests before naming the deceased suspect in the robbery attempt, 48-year-old Gary Amaya, as the person responsible in the rural shootings.
Repeatedly pressed about whether he would say Amaya was the border-shooting gunman, Kaupas declined. He added he hadn't wanted to even hold a news conference, but that reporters had been inundating his officers with calls.
The new evidence emerged two months after Will County officials arrested and jailed police officer Brian Dorian for the shooting spree, then released him after detectives verified he'd been home, logged on to his computer, the morning of the attacks. Will County officials were criticized for having rushed to judgment on Dorian.
The evidence against Amaya, Kaupas said, includes ballistic tests showing a Colt .38 special revolver used in the attempted robbery at an Orland Park L.A. Tan was the same one used in the border shootings.
