Seems like the person singing had a significant other in their life at some point... but it was an impossible relationship that could not work. They couldn't be together (and possibly never were), but the life of the singer has taken sharp turns and he found himself in the dark... and the only person who'd make him feel better is that impossible relationship person. He doesn't necessarily want it or can explain the feelings, hence the "strange education"... he knows he'll be "cast away" with the love that comes from the significant other, but that's what he needs to survive... he just needs that person to "reach out and touch". They will never be together, but will always need each other and be there for each other.

The song "A Strange Education" by The Cinematics is about resilience and determination, and the journey of understanding oneself in order to find love and belonging. The speaker walks a long road until they finally find a place where they feel familiar, safe, and where they can lay down their bones and rest. The speaker describes their journey as a strange education that has led them to the place where their true love waits for them. The lyrics suggest that finding one's way home, and understanding who they are, is an arduous but necessary journey to find and keep love. The song ultimately celebrates the power of resilience and the strength of love.

On the topic of breaking down the screen and the interface, the future of narrative in games will certainly involve Virtual Reality (VR). VR, to give a simple definition, is a simulation of events that users can experience as if they were in the fictional world themselves, through headsets with two screens (one for each eye) and a stereo for sound. It is a very new medium, and is, like games were in the early stages, very restricted by technology. If a game or simulation in VR does not run at a certain frame rate, users can experience severe nausea, and most home computers do not have the processing power to support big, complex games in VR. This means that at the moment, VR games are restricted in terms of graphics and complexity. The large sum of money required to purchase an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive means that it is not yet viable as a product for the general consumer. However, the medium open up a lot of possibilities for education, medicine, and of course, storytelling.
