Greetings from the Transfer-to-Excellence Program at UC Berkeley,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone's year is off to a great start! I just
wanted to write to remind you about our upcoming deadline for the
Transfer-to-Excellence (TTE) summer research program for community college
students. Applications are due Friday, February 1st. Please help us by

2013 TTE Summer Research Internship
Date: June 8-August 10, 2013

What is the TTE REU Program? An intensive 9-week, paid internship that
provides top science and engineering students throughout California
community colleges the opportunity to join Berkeley researchers working in a
collaborative and innovative environment on energy-related problems.
Students work on projects in the following areas:
. Bioengineering and synthetic biology: Create advanced biofuels
with engineered microbes
. Energy Efficient Electronics Science: Design and test low-energy
electronic devices
. Nanotechnology and Nanoscience: Explore nanomaterials for next
generation energy storage, nanochips, chemical biosensors and adhesives
What does the TTE REU program include?
* Real-world experience: Work on challenging projects on cutting-edge
energy research topics in energy
* Summer salary: $3,200 stipend
* Work in the San Francisco Bay Area: Travel to/from UC Berkeley,
summer housing, and meals provided
* Mentorship: Work one-on-one with research mentor and program staff
* Professional development: Attend transfer preparation seminars,
science and engineering presentations, industry field trips, and lab tours
What are the eligibility requirements?
. US citizen or permanent resident
. 3.25 GPA or higher for science, engineering, and math courses
. Enrolled in a California community college
. Will have completed two calculus courses before June 2013
. Will have completed three science or engineering courses, one of
which has a laboratory component, before June 2013
. Plan to return to a community college in Fall 2013
. Plan to apply for admission to a 4-year institution for a science
or engineering major in Fall 2013 (i.e., plan to enroll in 4-year
institution in Fall 2014)
. No prior research experience required
