Does anyone know if HP has implemented any battery care feature in the HP Envy x360 with a BIOS update? Something like the option to limit the battery charge to 80% or to 50% when you have your laptop plugged in to prevent battery wear.

I was decided to buy this laptop until I found out that (apparently) it doesn't have this feature (unlike other brands like Asus or Lenovo). I don't want to buy a laptop knowing that I will lose 30%-40% of my battery capacity in the first 2 years only because of having the battery at 100% charge when I use it at home (which is most of the time for me).

Hi there team Spectre x360. Coming from Lenovo Yoga Camp and want to join Spectre camp. The only thing that is not clear to me is the battery management. My Yoga 910 has battery "conservation mode" and since I use my laptop mainly connected to a charger I just set the option to charge the battery to 60%. This option reduces the battery voltage stress. It really does wonders with the battery health. When I'm on the go, I just switch the "conservation mode" off and charge the battery to 100%. So far after 5 years my battery health is in good condition and it still gives me around 6:30 hours. I can not find any information if the new Spectre x360 2020-22 (is the 22th year model already available?) has such an option? I know for sure that older generations don't have the option. Some of the HP laptops has something like that: =u8e9oWso_BE Thank you guys in advance, really looking forward to update my machine to a Spectre one.

Since users usually keep their AC adapter connected while using their laptop, the battery is often in a state of high-power(98-100%) for extended length of time which causes a reduction in battery life.

B. Balanced Mode(Blue color): Stops charging when power is above 80% and resumes charging when power is below 78%. This mode is recommended when using the Notebook on battery power during meetings or conferences.

Q: Why does the battery have a short charging time at the Windows login when restarting the laptop after the AC adapter has already been connected for a period of time (The battery light will turn orange then will turn white/green light in a few seconds)?

You may have noticed that when charging your device there is an excess of heat coming off the bottom. This is normal but If the temperature remains high for too long battery life could be seriously reduced and damage to the device may result. Therefore, leaving the device plugged in and charging at 100 percent for extended periods of time is not recommended. Some things you can do to prolong your battery lifespan include the following.

Please note that schemes employed by modern devices to achieve extended battery lifespans may mildly impact overall device performance. This is to be expected but is designed to have minimal impact on your productivity.

HP Battery Health Manager RecommendationA new BIOS-level setting, HP Battery Health Manager (BHM), was implemented in 2020. HP BHM is designed to help mitigate the exposure of the notebook battery to key factors that can accelerate battery degradation and swelling over time. HP recommends that customers update their BIOS to include the latest version of HP BHM and enable HP BHM to one of the two options below based on usage environment and or the age of the notebook:

  • There is a one-time recommendation that the end-users unplug the device for up to 2 hours to discharge the battery to about 75%, and then they can choose to leave the device plugged into the power source.
  • The battery icon in Windows will show 80% as per design. We recommend that you notify the end-users of this expected behavior to avoid any confusion.

I have a Lenovo laptop computer and recently had to re-install windows 10. when this was done I seem to have lost the battery management option to control when battery charges (i.e. keeping battery in the optimal running zones 20% to 80% I think). I downloaded and install Lenovo Power management 4 thinking that was it but could not find the options in there. How can I get the one back that was under the battery icon before and had easy access to these options? Thank you

In practice leaving it continuously being charged will not affect the battery that much but HP do have recommendations about it here: -en/document/c01297640#::text=For%20very%20long%2Dterm%20storage,computer%... Opens a new window. and they say, "Leaving the battery at a high level of charge in a high-temperature environment for extended periods can accelerate the loss of performance and capacity". And it also says, "Click the drop-down menu to review, and then select a Battery Health Manager setting: Maximize my battery health: Use this setting if the computer stays plugged in to the power adapter most of the time. This setting maximizes battery health by lowering the maximum battery charge level to 80%.

Looking at _to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries Opens a new window there is researched advice on the subject. Lithium batteries are much better these days than the Cadmium based ones and there is no need to deep cycle them.

HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS-level setting available in most HP business notebooks that is designed to help optimize battery life by mitigating the exposure of the notebook battery to key factors, such as high state-of-charge, that can accelerate battery swelling and chemical aging over time.

"When the feature was first introduced, customers had to manually enable HP Battery Health Manager to the recommended setting of Let HP Manage My Battery Health. As usage patterns for business notebooks have changed over time, HP has updated HP Battery Health Manager with new and improved charging algorithms. This makes it more effective at mitigating those factors that can accelerate battery swelling and chemical aging. HP is working with Microsoft to deliver an HP solution to enable this setting on select HP business notebooks so you do not have to enable it manually."

Despite it being a perfectly reasonable question, asking how long EV batteries last is unlikely to get you a straightforward answer. The reason for this, primarily, is due to how there are numerous factors which determine how long an EV battery will remain healthy for. This is why, as we just previously mentioned, fixed warranties, or mileage approximations, work instead to partially address the question.

Vehicle acquisition and disposal are areas of fleet management that the respective managers will always focus a lot of their efforts on. If such fundamental procedures of fleet management are not carried out judiciously, then this impacts the efficiency of the overall operations. Consequently, the vast majority of fleet managers thinking about adopting EVs will be drawn to deliberate the financial implications. That is, will the health of an EV battery cause its residual value to decrease?

You might be surprised to find that if you had one EV with a battery holding a 70% SoH, another vehicle with a near-identical condition and 90% SoH battery would be valued similarly. In fact, again, the quality status of a battery plays a considerable part here. For instance, a lower SoH battery may have a history of not being rapidly charged as much, and so is likely to age better.

Going off how the treatment of an EV battery wholly determines the rate at which it degrades, it is therefore important to note that fleet managers can absolutely minimise battery degradation in EVs. Just as fleet electrification is accelerating, so too is the technology surrounding it.

Most laptops use lithium-ion batteries as the power source, and as a general rule, this type of battery tends to lose charging capabilities. This can cause your laptop battery, which once held a full charge of 100%, to be limited to, say, 30% over time.

Following either set of instructions above generates a report containing a ton of information on your laptop, including information about your battery health. This report will be an HTML file, so all you have to do is double-click it to view the contents.

You can find the information about your battery health by scrolling down on the report to the Battery Information section. This section will include subsections with details on Design Capacity, Full Charge Capacity, and Cycle Count.

This will do the same thing as the Windows PowerShell method: it will generate a report that includes information on your battery health, which can be found by searching in your accounts directory for a folder called C:\Users[YourUsername].

The battery performance of your Razer Blade primarily depends on your usage. Enabling the Battery Health Optimizer feature in Razer Synapse 3 will help protect the battery and extend its life. See How to enable the Battery Health Optimizer feature in Razer Synapse 3 to learn how to do this.

Note: While enabling this feature and doing the tips below will help to protect the battery, please note that if the battery level is capped at 80%, it will be depleted sooner when in use.

Laptop is widely used for study and work. The battery is an indispensible hardware component in laptop. It powers up your laptop, making it possible for you to take the laptop out for work without connecting to the power supply. However, the battery will begin to wear down over time. This post offered by MiniTool tells you how to do Dell battery test in 3 ways.

Last year, Apple rolled out a feature in macOS called battery health management, the idea being that by limiting how long the battery is kept at 100% charge, it helps reduce wear on the battery and slows down chemical ageing.

The free version features a charge limiter that reduces battery wear and a discharge feature that allows the MacBook to run on battery even if it is on charge, allowing the battery to be discharged to an optimal level.

I've been running AlDente Pro on my MacBooks, and it's a solid applications that works well. The pro version does a really good job of controlling charge capacity and not charging the battery when the temperature is too high.
