Hi all,

I demonstrated Labtool to a colleague last week.

He commented that he did not like the way the ruler worked with the ticks not moving and the numbers changing instead.

I must say I agreed so I have started changing it so the ruler moves with the mouse moves.

I have checked in a work in progress version in my branch.

Still go major rounding problems to sort out.

Let me know what people think!

Cheers.

Simon

Hi Simon,

Make sure you do the new behavior optional, i.e., something you can change/enable in the options menu.

We have all our own preference when it comes to User Interfaces and I myself is used to the behavior currently implemented.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

I have no problem making the behaviour optional. I do think you will prefer the new behaviour when you try it however, it does feel much more natural.

I have to make it work properly first however!

Cheers.

Simon.

Hi Andreas,

I have not added the option to make it work like it used to yet.

Can I ask you to try my branch and let me know if you really want that option in.

To me it is much more logical now to have the grid and ruler moving with the mouse movement.

If you have tried it and still want the old way of working in as an option then I will spend the time and add the option in.

Cheers.

Simon

I have added the option you asked for anyway.

It does not save it yet when you exit.

I had problems saving things as they were not compatible between versions.

Let me know what you think.

It is on my fordp branch on Github.

Hi Simon,

A colleague of mine built your branch. The scrolling ruler seem to work as it should and it is good that you can select it by an option. I'm still used to the fixed ruler and actually prefer it, but it is always good to have the option to change behavior. I have worked a lot with other logic analyzers, such as LogicPort, which have the fixed ruler so I guess that is why I prefer that behavior.

Please note that you have misspelled Behavior (Behavoir). We haven't looked at your code, just run a quick test by building your branch and tested in Similator mode. It seems like you have done a lot of changes/commits on your branch. Please try to isolate this change on a separate branch if you want to make a pull-request on this new functionality.

Best regards,
Andreas

As you have found out spelling is not my strong point I will fix it!

I was rather hoping you could add the DALI changes to the main branch of LabTool.

The x10 and x100 probe functionality is also an improvement that is useful for many people.

I have a holiday coming up later this week but in the coming weeks I will try and fix the issues with my changes and then do a pull request.

All the best.

Simon.

Hi Simon,

I haven't looked at DALI, but we could most likely merge does changes as well to the main branch.

Best regards,
Andreas
