Hello all,

I don't quite understand what RemoteBLACS is.  Is this something that another computer can call on and command that computers device?  Ideally, that's what I want.  I've looked at the examples for the camera and documentation, but I don't quite follow.

Computer A and B are on a LAN.  Computer A controls a device via BLACS, let's call it Scope.  I want computer B to be able to change computer A's front panel, which in turn changes something on Scope like normal.

Thank you for any help.

Best,
Dave

Hi Dave,

There are two remote concepts in BLACS. We'll assume for these examples that BLACS and most devices are on Computer A:
  • Remote workers allow you to keep the front panel for a device on Computer A, while the worker process and physical connection to the device is on Computer B.
  • Remote BLACS starts a second copy of BLACS on Computer B, so that both the front panel and worker process for a device can be on Computer B, but the shot queue (etc) is managed by the copy of BLACS on Computer A (for both computers)
Neither of these sound like they are what you are looking for. In the past, I've used standard desktop sharing tools like Remote Desktop or VNC to allow multiple computers and control BLACS. That's the solution that will likely take the least amount of effort!

Cheers,
Phil
