We are using Beagle board RevC version board,
1. Eclair version downloaded from embinux from the following path,
"http://labs.embinux.org/index.php/Android-
Eclair_porting_guide_to_BeagleBoard"
2. followed all the steps mentioned in the above link, and downloaded
VideoView source and compiled it for eclair and copied the .apk into
system/app path, and booted the beagle board.
3. we could playback the video file, but there is no audio, the audio
in the video file was in aac format.
4. we saw somewhere that we have to enable the ALSA drivers in the
android kernel, for which we followed the steps mentioned in the link
"http://bs-android.seesaa.net/article/121303869.html?
reload=2010-01-18T19:48:04", after bulding the drivers and creating
the uImage and Root file system files and after copying them to the SD
card adn on rebooting the beagle board, its hanging, it is not
booting, instead its hand at the initial Android splash screen.
Could you please let me know how to enable audio, video playback on
eclair version for beagle board.

expecting an early response

Sai,

Sorry for late reply and inconveniences due to the labs' access.

My suggestion is , better you go with the gstreamer-cupcake build for
audio and video. There we have integrated the alsa-utils which again
contains the alsa_aplay and alsa_mixer.

The URL is :

http://labs.embinux.org/index.php/Android_For_OMAP3_with_Gstreamer_Integration

( this may not work now but will be working very soon)

Thanks Partha,

i have gone through the link that you have pointed for me to follow,
there i got doubts as below,

1. Android Toolchain's replacement with Embinux-Android Toolchain, do
we need to do this or can we continue with our exisitng tool chain,
which we have used it for building the Eclair version
(PATH:=/opt/arm-2007q3/bin/) for kernel build.

2.We are still getting the error even for this link as below,
/**/
repo init -u git://labs.embinux.org/embinux-android-build/android-omap3/repo/android/platform/manifest.git
-b gstreamer-cupcake-omap-beagle
fatal: read error (Connection reset by peer)
fatal: cannot obtain manifest
git://labs.embinux.org/embinux-android-build/android-omap3/repo/android/platform/manifest.git
/**/
This requirement is urgent for us, is there any mirror for this site
from where we can sync the version and continue on it?

Sai,

In this android build we are compiling the kernel along with android
build. So we have replaced the toolchain for compiling the kernel with
armv7 support.

Sai,

Cloning is working , can you please try it once. It is still under
testing phase.

Following is the log , only some times it is giving an error which is
actually due to Google's server.

Hi Partha,

as per the suggestion i have downloaded the Gstreamer integrated
Cupcake version, but still i could play video only, still i am not
able to hear the audio along with the video. I am using the Video
player application only mentioned in the URL below.
So could you please let us know is there anything else that we have to
do to hear audio, which is not mentioned in the URL?

The audio is in AMR Narrowband format, is it supported in this version?

Regards,
Sai Kiran V.

Sai,

This gstreamer build doesn't support AMR format , it supports mp3.
With mp3 the sound will be little feeble.

Steps for mounting sd-card :

1. mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
2. setprop EXTERNAL_STORAGE_STATE mounted
3. am broadcast -a android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED --ez read-only
false -d file:///sdcard

The required commands are ( for running mp3):

1. export GST_PLUGIN_PATH=/system/plugins
2. gst-inspect-0.10
3. gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=/sdcard/xyz.mp3 ! mad !
audioconvert ! audioresample ! volume volume=9.5 ! audioflingersink

Hi Partha,

Thanks for the info., and one more thing when i removed the gst.conf
from the FAT partition, its playing through open core instead of
GStreamer which is working fine even for AMR audio, but the video is
getting rotated by 90 degrees, can we get the source code for that
video player apk file?

And one more thing is that
http://labs.embinux.org/index.php/Android_Porting_Guide_to_Beagle_Board
page has been corrupted, could you please check this, as its a very
important page for most of the developers.

Sai,

We have also tested that , removing of gst.conf , we got a different
result . In that case video was working without the audio.

We have got the video player apk from Prajnashi where source was not given.

Sai,

One information , the audio is coming with opencore , and the video (
inversion) problem persists. We are looking into that.

Partha
