Dear brothers and sisters of the LFN Steering Committee:
As this coming Wednesday, 22 November, is the day before Thanksgiving, and many people are traveling, or having guests coming in, or in general tied up with preparations, neither the Steering Committee nor the Administrative Committee will meet. The Steering Committee, which has been unable to reach a quorum in its last two meetings, will meet on 29 November at 8:30 Eastern, 5:30 Pacific.
In the next several days I will be setting up new listservs for the Labor Fighback Network. JG died without passing on the access codes to this listserv, which I found out the hard way when I began phasing out this e-mail address. Everyone who is receiving this message has at one time been a member of the LFN Steering Committee. Please respond to this message to indicate if you would like to remain or be reinstated to the Steering Committee and can commit to one conference call meeting per month. Everyone who responds in the affirmative will be included on the Steering Committee and will receive invitations to conference call meetings. You will also be included on a listserv only for members of the Steering Committee, I will set up the new Steering Committee during the first week of December, so please respond before Thursday, 30 November. When the new Steering Committee is incorporated, it will discuss the Network's leadership structure to see if and what changes may be necessary.
Lastly, I will be adding a report on antiwar activity to the next Steering Committee agenda. We have a big opportunity to begin working for a major mass action against the U.S. war drive in the coming months. There will be a conference against U.S. military bases January 12-14 in Baltimore, organized by the U.S. Peace Council, UNAC, and other forces. I have been in touch with the lead organizer, Bahman Azad, suggesting that the conference initiate work on a major mass antiwar action for 2018. He is open to the idea, and after this weekend, I will have further discussion with him and others about it. Please consider attending this conference and helping us win a consensus for a proposal for a mass action whose goal would be to bring as many people into the streets as came out on January 21, 2017.
Have a great holiday weekend, everyone, whether you're feasting or not, and we will be back in touch in about five days.
In solidarity,
Tom
