Accurate multiphysics models consider a wide range of possible operating conditions and physical effects. This makes it possible to use models for understanding, designing, and optimizing processes and devices for realistic operating conditions.

COMSOL Multiphysics is a finite element analysis, solver, and simulation software package for various physics and engineering applications, especially coupled phenomena and multiphysics. The software facilitates conventional physics-based user interfaces and coupled systems of partial differential equations (PDEs). COMSOL provides an IDE and unified workflow for electrical, mechanical, fluid, acoustics, and chemical applications.

As of July 2021, the Department of Chemical Engineering participates in a shared comsol license with other departments across the college and University. The teaching license (CKL) is available to anyone on-campus and does not require any registration or special configuration. The research license (FNL) is limited to registered users only, by Andrew ID. The username on your computer MUST match your Andrew ID. Faculty and PhD students are registered for the research license by default. Anyone else that needs to use this license must request access by sending an email to cheme-c...@andrew.cmu.edu .

4. When prompted for license information, use the drop-down menu labeled license format and select @. Input 1718 for the port number and comsol.andrew.cmu.edu for the host name. Click Next.

You can model and simulate any physics-based system using software from COMSOL. COMSOL Multiphysics includes the COMSOL Desktop graphical user interface (GUI) and a set of predefined user interfaces with associated modeling tools, referred to as physics interfaces, for modeling common applications. A suite of add-on products expands this multiphysics simulation platform for modeling specific application areas as well as interfacing with third-party software and their capabilities. COMSOL Multiphysics is required to run any of the add-on products. The physics-based modules augment the core physics interfaces of COMSOL Multiphysics and provide additional interfaces for electrical, mechanical, fluid flow, and chemical applications. Any number of modules can be seamlessly combined to handle challenging multiphysics applications.

COMSOL Multiphysics is a simulation software based on advanced numerical methods and is used in all fields of engineering, scientific research, and manufacturing. The software supports single-physics and fully coupled multiphysics modeling capabilities, simulation data management, and easy-to-use tools for building simulation applications.

The main features of Comsol Multiphysics 3.4 include a user-friendly interface, a wide range of physics-based modules, multiphysics capabilities, customizable modeling and analysis tools, and compatibility with various operating systems and programming languages.

Engineers and scientists use the COMSOL Multiphysics software to simulate designs, devices, and processes in all fields of engineering, manufacturing, and scientific research. COMSOL Multiphysics is a simulation platform that provides fully coupled multiphysics and single-physics modeling capabilities.

Comsol Multiphysics is a software platform for multiphysics simulation with dedicated physical interfaces and tools for applications in the electrical, mechanical, thermal, fluid dynamics and chemical fields.

COMSOL Multiphysics is a general-purpose software platform, based on advanced numerical methods, for modeling and simulating physics-based problems. With COMSOL Multiphysics, you will be able to account for coupled or multiphysics phenomena. With more than 30 add-on products to choose from, you can further expand the simulation platform with dedicated physics interfaces and tools for electrical, mechanical, fluid flow, and chemical applications. Additional interfacing products connect your COMSOL Multiphysics simulations with technical computing, CAD, and ECAD software.
