connecting to oracle rac

I am monitoring a RAC exadata machine

I have specified node 2 of the RAC   <host>:1521/instance:2   and that works but sometimes when I disconnect and reconnect it picks up node 1 <instance>:1

Sometimes by deleting the entry  I can get it to reconnect to node 2 . from sqlplus it works well

The listener will start a new session on one instance or another depending on service settings.

You can change that and always connect to target instance as described in Lab128 FAQ: How Lab128 should be used with Oracle cluster databases (RAC)?
