Are Iranians lazy?
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2010/04/iran-official-accuses-iranian-of-laziness-.html

I would say it depends where the individual is working. In most
government jobs in Iran, people are very lazy. In private businesses,
they work hard and look for short cuts. One of the reasons Iranians
become more successful outside of Iran is that they have to work
harder.

Overall, we overcome our social ill of laziness by other positive
characteristics such as education and eagerness to be competitive.

IRAN: Official accuses Iranians of laziness
April 7, 2010 | 7:53 am
Oh, those lazy Iranians. Say what?

A mid-ranking government official in Esfahan has riled the national
psyche by proclaiming: “Iranians are lazier than the average people in
the world.”

One wouldn’t think so given the steady buzz of news, including street
protests, political battles over subsidy cuts and the perpetual
brinkmanship and diplomacy with the international community over the
country’s nuclear program. But Mohammad Reza Javadi Yegane believes
his countrymen have become sloths since the days of the Islamic
Revolution.

The semi-official news agency Tabnak cited Yegane, a member of the
Supreme Cultural Revolution Council, in reminding its readers that
three years ago Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that “social
laziness is the inner foe of Iranians.”

Some businessmen agree. Mostafa Bromandi, owner of a printing house,
said: “My workers are lazy. Out of the eight hours I pay them, they
only work two hours.... The more educated, the lazier. My accountant
has a BA degree. He is the laziest white-collar worker.”

A barber found such accusations a bit curious "On the one hand," he
said, "the government complains that the holidays in Iran are the
longest in the world. On the other hand .. when unrest was fomenting
in Tehran in the postelection, the government announced more
holidays."

Maryam, a bookkeeper who wouldn’t give her last name, said: “Yes,
Yegane is right. If we were not suffering from social laziness we
should have toppled this incompetent and inefficient government.”

First of all this statement is another attempt by a stupid Anti-Iranian (Maryam with no last name) to blame the lack of success of the Twitter Boys and Girls ignoring the fact that their defeat in their pointless struggle stems directly from lack of support among the majorit of Iranians.  The fact remains that there are not enough of these trash can burning looters and a lot more Iranians who support the Iranian government.

Besides being a trashy statement, this is a narrow minded analysis pointing to the lack of experience of an individual about work forces in general.  In America, I worked for small companies, medium size companies, large corporations, as well as a government organization.  The efficiency of an organization and its work force depends on the size of the organization. The most efficient place I ever worked was a small company and the most inefficient place I ever worked was a multi-billion dollar corporation that America's financial system depends on.  Here in America, customarily people complain of government institutions as inefficient ignoring the fact that in general they are large organizations.

In addition, it is quite stupid for Iranians to complain when they are the object of stereotyping by Americans and then turn around and use stereotyping to label Iranians as lazy.  It was not laziness that kept Iran in the 2nd century for decades.  It was the thievery and treasonous characteristics of the monarchy especially during Pahlavi regime that kept Iran a backward nation.

It takes absolute blindness and sheer stupidity to ignore the advances that have been made in that country during the past three decades.  A country with no available electricity to its population in the immediate proximity of its capital city prior to 1979 has practically made all public utilities including telephone and other means of communications available to its remotest villages in that large expansive land. A nation that bore the distinction of a poverty stricken and diseased country prior to 1979 has now one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world.  Is it not stupid to label this nation as "LAZY"?

This is a nation that has withstood the most sever and relentless political, economic, and social pressures from the most powerful military machine in the world and is still standing proud and strong.   Is it not stupid to label this nation as "LAZY"?

Thanks,
Sid
