to Láadan
I wanted to start a discussion of working on a first issue of a community zine together, and I thought a mailing list might be a good format for this. Google Groups also lets things be presented as kind of an online message board, so we'll try this out! (It can be difficult to keep track of everything on Facebook.)

I have a repository here where zine files can be kept, including contributions, draft versions, and printable/readable versions of the issue one completed:

And otherwise, things can be sent directly to me at Rac...@Moosader.com for anyone not familiar with GitLab.

Some information about contributing to the Lolehoth zine:

General notes about contributing

Things you should provide

  • Please make sure to specify how you'd like to be credited, please include your pronouns.
  • Any contact information (or links to social media) you'd like included.
  • Please submit an English language translation (plus any other translations you'd like to include) if the contribution is in Láadan.
  • Please specify a license; you might consider using a [Creative Commons](https://creativecommons.org] license in order to provide your content for free, but also ensure attribution and any additional restrictions.
  • Contributions should be original works, works you own the rights to, or possibly translations of Public Domain works.

Zine use

  • This is intended to be a free resource for people, or possibly to be sold for the cost of materials (paper, ink, shipping) if being provided in physical form.
  • Each zine will also be available in readable and printable formats so people can read it digitally, or print it out and assemble the zine themselves.
  • Works in Láadan (not just about Láadan** should include a translation, both for community QA checks, as well as to help out novices.

*Other notes

  • Any hateful content and bigotry will not be permitted. This includes trans-exclusionary content, racism, sexism, homomisia (hatred of homosexuality) or other sexualities (including asexuality), and so on.

What to contribute?

Some ideas!

  • Short stories
  • Poems
  • Songs (+Sheet music / tabs?)
  • Comic strips
  • Artwork (Doesn't require Láadan writing; could be given to decorate the zine)
  • Articles (or news blurbs or short thoughts) about Láadan, languages, feminism, LGBTQIA+ topics, etc.
  • "Ads" for your own works / where to find you!
    • Social media? YouTube? Video games or other media that isn't print-usable?
  • Pen-pal/Email-pal requests?
  • Puzzles
  • Printable activities (e.g., a Láadan calendar)

Thinking about Lolehoth community zine and what kind of things can go in this first issue, like for example:
  • A blurb about Láadan -- Maybe this could be a contribution by a different person each time, putting in their own words what Láadan is and what it means to them.
    • What is Láadan?
    • What does Láadan mean to me?
  • News - any new thing that has happened within the community.
    • I was going to put info about the éeya album by meteoric twin here at least.
    • Any other Láadan news?
  • Thoughts/Articles
    • This could be writings about the Láadan language but also about culture, news, etc.
    • For example, someone could write about the outbreak and thoughts and feelings about it.
  • Art
    • Maybe a kind of "gallery" for peoples' art (text, graphic, etc.). It could be in Láadan, inspired by Láadan, or even not directly related to Láadan; you're a Láadanist, so your art belongs any time. :)
  • Lessons
    • Maybe a short Láadan lesson in each issue.

Also, if anyone is into photography, it'd be great to use a Láadanist's work for the cover image. This is an example with junk text on it, with a photo that my husband took in India:

So like not everything contributed has to be directly related to Láadan, like art and photography. Or maybe some of your existing works can be translated into Láadan, such as songs or stories and such.

Let me know if you have any possible contributions or suggestions!

Thanks,
--Rachel
