I am sure Ernie's Jr Taco House must pre-date Mijares...and what about
Hutch's BBQ?

I'm trying to find out what the oldest restaurant in Pasadena is. So far,
I've come up with Mijares -- any others I should know about?

Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but the In'n'Out on Foothill
is listed as #5 in the chain. I'd imagine it's pretty damn old. Totally
not what you were looking for, but the Caltech Coffeehouse has been in
existence in some form for several decades. I used to be head manager there,
and am told it started in the late 60s.

Ernie Jr's taco is pretty old. I wonder if they updated their food?
One of those places I went as a kid. Funny how as a kid I like Taco
Bell better. Went there once as an adult (maybe 15 years ago) and
didn't care for it. Thought the newer Mexican places were more
authentic.

Isn't Beadles Cafeteria quite old?

How about the BBQ place up on Walnut, forgot the name (BBQ Hut?).

The burger joint on the SW corner of Fair Oaks and Colorado is pretty
old I think. Remember seeing it when I used to go to the Free Press
bookstore. Someone ought to bring *that* back. I don't remember that
building ever becoming anything after it closed maybe 15 years ago? I
think it's still empty. Amazing.

And what about Beadles Cafeteria? Hasn't that been around since the 40's?

Denny: That building is at Colorado Blvd. and Fair Oaks Avenue and it is
known as the Col-Fair Building. It's been purchased by a developer and is
now being totally reconstructed. I've been a Pasadena resident for 25
years and I've never seen this place in any other condition than you
remember. Come back in a few months and visit Old Pasadena and see the
upgrades. My son was a host at Ernie Jr.'s during his high school days.
It was his first job. Not much has changed there over the years. It could
be one of the oldest businesses in town.

The restaurant has, but it moved into soul-less new digs a few
years back. However, I believe its sister joint (the "Pasadena
Cafeteria"?) remains in its original location, near the mall
but on the other side of Colorado Blvd.

Not any more, they auctioned off the interior about two weeks ago...they
seem to have merged with Beadles...

Just saw in my Entertainment 97 book that the Pasadena Cafeteria is
"Family owned and operated since 1950". That's pretty old. Maybe worth
using the coupon there. Well, it says any evening and it closes at
7:30pm. Maybe not then....
