The battle of the Smoothie Chains is on...so what's better? Jamba Juice or
Robek's Juice?

My personal vote would have to go to Jamba. Their smoothies are much, much
sweeter and have more strawberry content than the other. I recently gave
Robek's a shot and was disappointed...it just didn't give me the same
"Feel-good Sunny California Summer Day" feeling I get when I sip on a Jamba
smoothie. Plus, when you order, Jamba takes your name - if you go there
habitually (like I do), the Jamba people get to know you on a first-name
basis. At Robek's, you're just a number. Though Jamba seems to have the
bigger share of the market, with stores all over California, plus Arizona
and Colorado...no doubt they'll go national by 2000; I'm sure all those
eastcoasters would love it. The only Robek's in town are in the Westside,
Downtown and one in Glendale.

I've tried both as well. Here's my stack on things.

Taste: Both are rather similar. It's like Coke vs. Pepsi.

For the record: Robeks does have plenty of smoothies with strawberries. All
non-dairy smoothies contain strawberries.

That's because you had it in Downtown. It's always windy because of the tall
buildings. :>

Ahh yes, the ordering. Jamba is superior. For one thing, the employees get your
order right the first time. I also like the ordering by name thing. It's really
funny to hear a Jamba employee say "Cranberry Craze for Cleefus."

Advantage: Jamba.

Locationwise, Jamba tends to stay in yuppy areas. At least Robeks penetrated
Downtown first, and are expanding to areas as far flung as Calabasas.

Advantage: Robeks.

Something else I like about Robeks is they have a larger menu. They actually
serve wraps. The mix your own frozen yogurt is probably the best part of it
all. $2.95 for a 12 ounce yogurt and up to 3 flavors.

I never said that Robek's lacks strawberries, only that comparatively there
isn't as much strawberries found in a Robek's than a Jamba...It's like
Robek's considers strawberries as an afterthought, while on a Jamba it's
more of a featured attraction. And believe me, I can see it (that red/pink
color), feel it (those strawberry seeds that almost get stuck between your
teeth) and, of course, taste it.

I agree, but don't yuppies work Downtown too? As for Calabasas, Jamba
started in San Luis Obispo, and spread statewide, as well as locations in
Arizona and Colorado. I believe next up are stores in Washington, Nevada,
Oregon and Texas.
In the bigger picture, Jamba has the advantage. Jamba rules the West.

...or you get to have fun making up names and watching the poor guy
call 'em out. Try "Bonehead"- it seems to make them uncomfortable.
"Batman" works pretty well, too.

As someone who usually prefers non-dairy and doesn't like
sherbet all that much, I find Robek's has a far better
selection. At Jamba, almost everything has either yogurt
or sherbet in it.

My vote is for Robek's as well. If I'm in Glendale I'll stop at the new
one next to the Good Guys/theater complex, but otherwise I'm stuck with
Jamba. I prefer Robek's for the wider selection, particularly non-dairy
(and non-banana) choices.

Jamba is a fun place, though.
