Ladies - Please take the time to read this and sign the petition (if
you believe the law should be changed). This law does NOT affect
Women's League but does affect anyone who wishes to toss a disc around
"between Memorial Day and Labor Day without a permit."

Hi,

The LA community has recently learned of a standing ban on any ball/
frisbee activities at LA County-controlled beaches, other than beach
balls or volleyballs. If these activities are conducted during the
peak summer season without a permit, violators are subject to
escalating fines up to $500. Playing frisbee and other activities is a
fundamental part of going to the beach! Demand that the Supervisors
repeal this misguided law.

That's why I signed a petition to Zev Yarolslavsky, LA County Board of
Supervisors, Gloria Molina, LA County Board of Supervisors, Mark
Ridley-Thomas, LA County Board of Supervisors, and Don Knabe, LA
County Board of Supervisors, which says:

"We, the undersigned, urge the Board of Supervisors to repeal the ban
making it "unlawful for any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll
any ball, tube, or any light object other than a beach ball or beach
volleyball upon or over any beach" between Memorial Day and Labor Day
without a permit. This law, however long it has been on the books, is
draconian, overly broad, and absurd. Your assurances that this law
will not be enforced as written are little comfort in the face of
potential fines up to $500. If the law does not say what you mean,
then it should not be on the books. Repeal this ridiculous law and
bring play back to our beaches!"
