to LA Labor Fest - Film
We can buy the PBS film for $25. I am checking with them to see if
there will be screening fees. I am also reaching out to the HBO
filmmakers.

Great, Lyn. What about Made in LA, are you or someone working on that?

great--we also have to work on a location--was it decided that this will be our March 25th event for sure?

i don't think anything was confirmed. there were a couple of other film festival possibilities as well, including CLUW's.

I think most people at our meeting agreed that the films would be good for a 25th event, since it would not be that hard to pull together.  I say go with it.  We mentioned the Japanese American Cultural Center--any word on that?  How about a union hall or church?  Somewhere that people are used to going to, centrally located.  Holman United Methodist Church on Adams, First AME?  We could ask ICUJP (Interfaith Com United for Justice and Peace) or CLUE (Clergy & Laity United)

The CLUW screening they were talking about was in the City of Industry or something, maybe something else came up at their meeting.

I just spoke to a friend who told me that the City of Industry thing was the IBEW Electrical Training Trust building on Garfield, that CLUW had held their annual conference there last fall, and that she--my friend--thought that the film was going to be showing there.

That's what I have heard as well but its really far so we were thinking that there could be two screenings.
I have been in communication with the company who produced the HBO film to get permission to screen it, and am waiting to hear back from the PBS film.

I am a bit concerned we do not get too long a program--do we know the lengths of each of these? If we show Made in LA, and both the PBS and the HBO films--that is easily a full evening.
I also thought we had talked about having some speakers and spoken word --
I am going to propose that at Tuesday's meeting we primarily focus on the March 25th program, promotion of all the events, participation in the March 26th County Fed event and other outreach to groups.
So we can do that, I am going to provide my report/update as a written one sometime tomorrow, so it is not in the way of the above suggested topics.

I believe that Made in LA is 56 minutes; HBO is under an hour. The PBS film is probably an hour. I think we should show either the HBO or PBS Triangle film and Made in LA. I am still waiting for permission for screening. If it is part of larger evening, we should use one of the two Triangle films.

Made in LA is 70 min.  The HBO doc is 39 minutes--shorter is good (if quality is fairly equal) and not everyone has access to HBO.

thanks - so let's have a definite proposal ready for tomorrow night--maybe we should think about two film nights - one on its own, and one on the 25th where we just show the Made in LA as a benefit for the GWC

Andy and film fest committee:
I am in active conversations with the producers of the HBO film and still waiting to obtain a copy and permission to use it. MADE IN LA can be a back up, but I am hoping for the HBO film. This is all happening right after their broadcast so I know they busy but I do want to let you know that I am on top on it.
