Hello, does anyone know if Netflix on Apple TV doesn't label the tags correctly? For example, I have recently bought a Bose 900 soundbar and it has Dolby Atmos in it. My problem is when I'm watching a show/movie on Netflix on Apple TV 4k 4th Gen (2021), it doesn't display Dolby Atmos on the content, it shows Dolby Vision, on it. For example the F1 drive to survive is in Dolby Atmos. When I go to my Bose music app it does show that the sound is playing in Dolby Atmos. I'm wondering why it doesn't show the label correctly on Apple TV Netflix App. I currently have the 4th gen Apple TV 4K.
Another example is that Dolby Atmos is shown on the TV's Netflix app when I'm watching a show/movie. This is strange that Apple is not displaying the correct labels on the app, it only shows Dolby Vision or Ultra HD 4K. I want the Apple to correctly show Dolby Atmos on the content as well.
I noticed something even more weird. When I connect my TV to my Atmos enabled AV receiver, the Atmos tag disappears from the Netflix movie description .. when I disconnect the AV receiver then the Atmos tag reappears. This happens repeatedly. Who knows?!
The showing of badges (separate from the actual formats used) is how Netflix programmers made the app for Apple TV. There is nothing that an end-user can do, but request a change. How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
I also noticed that Atmos is not playing or showing on Netflix on my 4K Apple TV Gen 4. I recently updated the TVos software to version 16.3.2 and the previous version didn't have this issue! I'm not seeing this on the other apps e.g. HBO Max, Apple TV, and Prime! Could this be an Apple issue?
I followed the steps patricia226 says and I still only get 5.1. Last night all the Dolby Atmos movies were showing 5.1. I deleted the Netflix app and re-added it and Dolby Atmos ws back. I watched part of Blood and Gold in Dolby Atmos last night and today it was back to 5.1. I deleted the app multiple times and restarted the Apple 4k box. I did upgrade the os to 16.6 and still only 5.1. I called Netfix support and talked over an hour, of course having to check everything else but their app. Finally, the girl said thier technical team had no answer and to call back tomorrow to talk to the technical supervisor. Very frustrating since the Netfix app has been playing Dolby Atmos forever. I have 4 Apple 4K boxes and none now show Dolby Atmos. They are all running os 16.6.
This problem still persists. I have a Dolby Atmos TV and Dolby Atmos soundbar. On the latest Apple 4K TV I only get 5.1 audio labels for titles that had the Dolby Atmos before. Tried all the possible settings on TV, Apple TV, deletes, restarts, have premium account. Dolby Atmos works for all other streaming services. I've contacted Netflix support but abandoned my hopes when Netflix support required me to repeat all the chat conversations after the original conversation was lost due to the phone lock event. Nice support app for the year 2023, Netflix... The outcome was me canceling the subscription until this issue is fixed, the content was mostly boring to me, anyways. This is probably what all of us should do to achieve anything.
Just a black screen with audio on my Sony tv. The Apple TV and iphone are connected via mirroring but cannot watchx Netflix !! Please help software on all devices are up to date. Cannot way h downloaded movies via Netflix and can watch live streaming movies via Netflix! Is this a restriction by Apple ??
Hi. This is a restriction implemented by the Netflix app. Apps can decide how they interact with AirPlay and mirroring. Apple is not involved. Have you tried not using mirroring, instead using the AirPlay icon in the lower right of the video player?
As I said the downloads are blocked from airplay, this is due to copyright and the agreement with the providers (not Netflix itself). You would likely find the same on other video streaming services that offer offline viewing. If you want to watch on another device then you need to stream directly or stream on the phone and use airplay
I've seen several questions about this, but never an answer. On several streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, etc, I was getting a black screen with no video and could only hear the audio. I use Chrome, but checked Safari and was also getting the issue. I followed all of the troubleshooting steps on Netflix's website; still nothing. However, I found a fix so I wanted to share:
Unfortunately, this doesn't help my issue at all. I have been struggling with this ever since I bought a MacBook Pro. This issues happens with Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, etc. I can't rely on my Mac to stream video. I have to get my iPad Pro for that ?. I tried Safari, Chrome, and Edge and issue is the same every time. I think this is a Mac related issue rather than a browser issue. I am going to contact apple support on this and will update here.
I have been struggling with this forever and couldn't figure out why it was so intermittent. I finally figured out why on my system it was happening. I use multiple screens and will stream while I work. While working I sometimes need to create a video of my screen so I'll pause the streaming, and open up Camtasia to record my screen. If any screen recording software is open all the streaming services will only show black screen with audio. Make sure you have any software that records your screen is closed out. For me that is Snagit, Camtasia, Vidyard, ect.
I had similar problem. I have macbook2023 connected to monitors through dell d6000 universal docking station. Since dell uses DisplayLink technology.. as soon as I connect MacBook to docking station .. currently running Netflix video turns blank with audio streaming on...
I have also been struggling with this forever too. It started again this morning and thankfully found this post. I had my iPad plugged in as a monitor and it turns out this was the cause! Can't believe I'd never noticed this correlation either. Thanks for solving this mystery!
So it was a crashed background process which led to the black screen issue. The Mac even said "Your screen is being observed" at the user login. That may could happen with similar recording software / screen recordings as well.
Just talked to thew Apple Tech support and got a resolution. This is happening due to an interference from one of the "Login items" load during the startup and running in the background. In my case, it was the DisplayLink drive I have installed to support multiple monitors. When I disable the DisplayLink, the issue was resolved immediately. If you don't use DisplayLink, you can troubleshoot the issue by starting Mac in the Safe Mode. Please follow steps below.
Please stream videos in the SafeMode and see if the issue exists. If you can watch videos in the Safe Mode, then issues is with one of the login items and/or extension you have installed. Please restart the Mac. After that, start disabling login items one-by-one to find the defective item.
oh man, but this doesn't help much if you don't use chrome at all and you are still getting the black screen. this is such a puzzle and I am really really surprised no one has found causes and fixes for this yet. like its happening at least twice a month for me now on any streaming that isn't Netflix and I ONLY use safari.(but I still checked the others and they all have same prob too) I have done so much troubleshooting, restarting, turning off any ad blockers and pop up blockers, clearing cache (pain the the rear too that one), and logging in and out of everything all the way to restarting the internet and computer for a full restart cycle. I just wanted to watch some wheel of time on my day off. surely, someone out there knows why this is happening? (MacBook Pro with M1 and Ventura)
Same issue. Was able to make the changes in Chrome and am able to have both sound and video when screen mirroring to TV. Still black screen when trying to screen mirror movie purchased from Apple TV from Mac to TV. Works perfectly when using iPad. Odd.
Was trying to Chromecast Screen or Apple Mirroring The Matrix on Max.com and filter it via ClearPlay but the video was not showing up only the audio... Tried updating/upgrading chrome, ClearPlay extension and nothing... Came across this amazing apple community post and BAM... was able to Chromecast Screen or Apple Mirroring with video and audio... Thanks for taking the time to post.
THANK YOU for this comment!!!! This is what solved my problem! I checked all my apps that records screens and they were not running. I have been trying to figure this one out for so long. Why on earth does iPad sidecar cause this? That is so crazy!
How come videos won't play while using sidecar, no problem playing when using a normal second display? The videos won't play on my MacBook Pro display or the iPad Pro display. As soon as I disconnect the video is right there playing.
Netflix uses Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect content. In a web browser, this is done using EME (Encrypted Media Extensions), and uses DRM products such as Google's "Widevine" (found in Chrome, Firefox, Brave, etc.), and other technologies.
When connecting an external display or other device, these DRM technologies require those devices to support something called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), which is an anti-piracy mechanism. It ensures the external device is "safe" and is not a recording device being used to duplicate the video feed. Many modern external monitors, TVs, projectors, etc. establish HDCP through an HDMI cable connection, and everything "just works."
