I enjoyed the AGoT game quite a bit. Let's start thinking about when
January's session will be held.

Thursdays in January still work for most?

Yup. All Thursdays are equal for me. Separately, I am hosting a group to play Artemis this Saturday afternoon, and you are all invited. Artemis is a starship simulation where everyone has a different crew assignment. Bring a laptop or iOS device and you will be helm, weapons, comm, engineering, science, or captain!

Artemis is super fun...I wonder what I am doing this saturday. I could bring a few lappys.

Also, I am down for games on Thursday. Will be home the whole day so if you all want to head over early, I will be around. I am downloading a pirated apocalypse marathon so when we all die on the 22nd I will have been prepared. Anyone have suggestions of end of or post apoc movies? My list so far is:

The Quiet Earth
A Boy and His Dog
Human Highway
Kin Dza Dza
Six String Samurai
Iron Sky

Where are the Mad Max movies?
Def Con 4?
Surf Nazis Must Die?
Postman and Waterworld?

and not technically post apoc in the modern sense, but probably the
most fitting: Apocalyptico

Also, do we have a location to go with the 31st date?

We can do my place, but it would be on a coffee table, which I am ok with but might be a pain for you guys. We could also ask the the new Whose Turn Is It Anyway for their hours, I know they have hosted stuff. We could also go south again.

Likewise, I can start finding a sixth if there isn't one from the group.

I say bring it to Austin this time. Either a personal residence such as (Matt's or Philippe's) or a place like Rockin tomato or Whose Turn Is It Anyway.

And a six player would be much better, so either Jeff or Matt can find our sixth.

Hey there,

I do not know if I will be able to make it. Our hot water heater seems to have rusted through and it may happen that it is going to be replaced on Thursday. So, I would say that you all should play without me but if I can make it, I will head that way.

Thanks!

As to the Tomato, I don't think they'll ever mind people playing games there.  They like us.  But, sometimes, they have events during the week (live music and such), so you may want to make sure that there's nothing going on over there that night.  Feel free to text me tonight and remind me to check with someone over ther for you.  (I'll try to remember to ask on my own, but know that I'm likely to get caught up in a game and forget...)

So....obviously during the end game, if someone is way down the chart
they'll have no shot at winning. Much like a child crying 'no' as it's
only means of influencing it's surroundings we've seen this last place
player 'kingmake' and go from being whipped to having a _huge_
influence on the game.

What can be done to prevent this? Make sure a player never falls that
far behind the pack? Not allow anyone to leave castled territories in
the late game? Are there any good suggestions on BGG?

Thoughts?

Hey all, apologies for leaving a bit early last night. Was worried for my wife driving home that tired so I thought I had better skidoo.

As for GOT, The game is pretty balanced it seems. Most of what we seem to have going on is more a matter of experience and strategy rather than design issues.

For instance, if I had drove up into the north and made friends with Matt while pursuing then eastern side of the board this game may have gone a lot differently given the supply issues Stark had for most of the game. It would have forced the south to be even more competitive and sea bridging would have come more into play.

I just can't help myself from trolling a player who has that much of a reaction. If it were Fritters or Casey, I probably would have run a proper strat.

I would love to see some rule augmentations though...maybe for speeding the game up a bit!

I think it’s just the nature of the game. If two players want to form an alliance and win as a team, there’s nothing to stop that. I don’t think a rule change will do it. If it feels like Monopoly to someone (I can’t win, this is taking too long, I just want it to end), then that’s a failure of the game or a disconnect between the players’ goals and the game’s goals.

I didn’t take anything happening in the game personally (as myself, Matt). As Lannister, I absolutely did. For me though, that’s what the game is about. The ending (to both our games) has left me (as a player) frustrated, as there isn’t a second place, there isn’t a “Hand”, and if we want to house rule one, then we need to do it before the game. I don’t think I would have won if the game went 10 turns. I would very much have liked to see who would have, though. I think it was shaping up to be a great strategic fight.

That said, maybe it’s sour grapes on my part. I’m competitive, and I like to win. I might feel differently about it if I had been in Fritters position. I could chalk it up to “negotiation”. At the end of the day, I think we should look to see if people want to play AGoT for four more months. I’m the new guy in the group, and it’s certainly possible I have an outlook on games that doesn’t mesh.
