Hi Don, Hank, Ron, and
all:
I apologize for the late reply, I
have been really busy lately. Unfortunately it looks like this will be the
case for some time so I am thinking that it may be better for me to step back
from KXCI for a while rather than try to be involved at a less than effective
level.
For sure I will not be participating
in the election committee. In addition to the lack of time, I am
disappointed in the Board's continued unwillingness to address past issues
with the procedure and the continued dependence on one individual's "special"
knowledge. Not only was that knowledge misused in the past, but it has
never been adequately addressed in any meaningful or public way. Nevermind
the risk to management should that individual become unable to do his job for
any reason. I do hope the Board will eventually come to the conclusion that many
others of us have - the simple answer is independent 3rd party elections.
As I mentioned at the January call to
audience, I hope as well that the station and Board will do more to PROMOTE
democratic elections and will retain or even raise the 10% minimum quorum for
turnout.
I am sorry to have missed the meeting
last night, I did not hear any announcements for it until about 4:30 yesterday
afternoon. I have not been online much the last few weeks and neglected to
check my notes from the last meeting. While it has been a nice change to
hear announcements for the fundraising committee, KXCI still has a long way
to go in terms of generating listener participation. Failure to announce
Board meetings is a step backwards.
As for the CAB, I would be willing to
try and stay involved but I do not want my name used in any sham attempts to
represent that KXCI has one while ignoring the actual intent of the
regulations. While I was one of the only ones left, I never agreed to any
sort of leadership position. I do hope that we can meet again and discuss
it further. I will try to be available for that. As long as the
organization itself is implementing the points of the regulations the needs of
an actual CAB are minimal, but the key is to actively recruit the kinds of input
needed from the members and the community. I feel we still have a long way
to go.
Thanks,
Kali
