Hi,

The Waterloo Region Food System Roundtable is leading a campaign to make it easier to legally establish community gardens and temporary farmers markets. An organizing meeting explaining how people can help with their campaign is happening on Friday, May 23 (11:00 am - 3:00 pm). It would be great if some of the people involved with KW Urban Harvester could come out to help! Details below.

Cheers,

Alisa McClurg

Food Friendly Municipalities: A Policy Advocacy Strategy for Waterloo Region

Dear Krista,
Our policy advocacy strategy is ready. We want you to join our campaign to help increase awareness about the importance of temporary farmers’ markets and community gardens to provide more access to fresh, healthy food in our cities.

Food issues are hot right now! The City of Kitchener created new rules for food trucks to "provide a variety of food choices" within the city. The City of Waterloo became the first to endorse the Region of Waterloo Food Charter.

Let's keep food issues on the radar as we head into the fall municipal elections.

 Join our campaign
  • Help with our social media outreach campaign
  • Meet with your Councillors and Candidates to discuss opportunities for supporting  temporary farmers' markets and community gardens
Come to our volunteer training
  • Get details about our campaign messages and social media plan
  • Check out our new webpage and campaign petition site
  • Participate in a fun "public narratives" exercise to prepare for meeting with Councillors and sharing your story
When: Friday, May 23, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Where: Laurier School of Social Work, 120 Duke Street, West, Kitchener, Room 108

Lunch and refreshments provided.
