Hi,

Heather Cain (whom I've cc'd) emailed me to say that the mulberries are ripe and Saskatoons are getting close. If anyone would like to harvest some with her, feel free to send her an email at yieldt...@gmail.com . You might also want to join our discussion list (that can be signed up by going to at http://www.kwurbanharvester.org/contact-us ) as Heather said she might join that list. That way you could have a group discussion about wild berry harvesting.

Cheers,

Hi all,

Here is Heather's response regarding the berry picking. It seems she was just wondering first of all if anything like this has happened yet. If people want to respond to her (at yieldt...@gmail.com) with suggested picking days and ideas about trees for picking, that would help. Then we could actually make this idea happen!

Cheers,

Hi All,

It seems there is lots of enthusiasm for berry-picking! That's great.

I didn't actually intend to invite people to an organized picking; rather I was wondering if anything organized around fruit-picking from empty lots, boulevards, or private property (with permission) has been done before. I know some cities have fruit gleaning/picking programs, where fruit is harvested (and maybe processed) and part of it is given to the pickers and part of it to people in need (i.e. low income earners, food bank). I think that's an awesome idea because it turns what would otherwise waste into food for people!

Perhaps we could begin with organized picking days, or else a list of good trees for picking. I only know of a few spots at this time, as I have only recently gotten into this idea. I welcome your thoughts and ideas.
