Hello!

Welcome lucky first members of the KWCS Announcement List!

We are finally getting things going with this list and have some exciting things to share with you:

1. Facebook! Twitter! Website!
2. October 12 Public Information Session
3. Call-out for info session hosts
4. Call-out for vegan/gluten-free snacks
5. Other ways to help

1. Find us online, all over the place!

The KWCS is (finally) on Facebook - you can check us out at https://www.facebook.com/G20KWCS

We're also on Twitter - https://twitter.com/#!/KWCS_G20

And our website is http://kwcs.2010resistance.ca/ - there's an RSS feed you can follow if you are so inclined

2. October 12 Public Information Session

On Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 pm, we will be hosting a Public Info Session at the Queen St. Commons (43 Queen St. S in Kitchener). Please invite as many people as you can, particularly those you think might be able to host a private info session with friends, at a church, or a local organization.

We will be talking about: what happened in Toronto, why people protest the G20 all over the world, and why it's all very relevant today, as well as an update on the 17 community organizers charged with conspiracy (including 7 current or former KW residents - and our friends!).

Please spread the word:

3. Call-out for info session hosts

We are looking for people to host information sessions - in their homes, classes, with organizations you're involved in, churches, or wherever. We can send as many people as you like to talk about whatever you like (well, within reason). There are also a couple of defendants and their family members available for private discussion sessions.

4. Call-out for vegan/gluten-free snacks

The 17 'conspiracy' co-defendants are in court for about 11 weeks this fall, and we've been sending a lunch once a week and have our lunch-making schedule pretty much filled up for the rest of the fall, but what we're hearing they DO need are snacks! If you're able to send vegan and/or gluten-free snacks, please contact Janice Lee (janj...@gmail.com). Those can be sent at varying times during the week, not just Thursdays like our lunches.

5. Other ways to help

The two main ways you can help are to contact those with the ability to get these charges dropped, and to spread the word so others can add their voices. The Attorney General and the Provincial and Federal Governments need to hear that the ongoing criminalizing of dissent and of organizing protests is not acceptable. This case could have serious ramifications for the future of activism in Canada and we need to be talking about it as much as possible, and telling those in power that we will not stand for it.
