Hello. Last year, KVIN spent about £1000 pounds on a phone with screen reading and recognition software which can be used to read print documents to visually impaired people. Good investment? Well, that’s a lot of money for a phone no committee member is willing to use.
I thought when I approved this purchase, that as I already have a phone which belongs to KVIN, this phone would be given to somebody else, who would use it for organising and managing new activities and services. However, the phone is not being used by KVIN. None of the committee members wish to use it, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise as all they want to do is change a few policies because they’re offended by the word violation.
I could be wrong, so at this point I will ask the committee, who is in possession of the KNFB reader, and how is it being used for the good of KVIN members? I bet I won’t get an honest answer, but I am asking this question on behalf of somebody else in KVIN who wants to know. I won’t name the person, in case the committee uses the new Complaints and Disciplinary Policy to conduct an unfair disciplinary hearing at which the person cannot speak. Yes the new policy appears to allow the committee to do that, and they’ll claim it’ll only be used in cases of extreme abuse, even though the policy doesn’t say that.
The money that was used was money given to KVIN by Kirklees Council, who thought KVIN would put it to good use. As far as I know, the rest of the money hasn’t been spent. It’s just been sitting there unused for months. It was supposed to be spent on equipment the committee would use in their committee work.
Of course, the committee won’t even agree to a change in the constitution requiring it to meet every two months. That’s how reluctant they are to do any work. The only things they’re not reluctant to do are trying to stop members helping other members, and altering policies because of the word violation.
Do they really need thousands of pounds of equipment to assist them in doing absolutely nothing for members, or did they obtain all that money, hoping to spend it on equipment they personally want while falsely claiming they’re buying equipment KVIN desperately needs?
An email about committee members have been behaving like a clique since I stepped down as vice chair, and how a committee member used his position to ring people who didn’t even know him will be sent to the KVIN Discussion Forum next week if the committee hasn’t changed its attitude towards members who are trying to help other members.
