Anyone interested? Travel and payment of £15 per hour of involvement and York's not too far away.

Subject: [bcab] Research on accessible websites at the Department of Computer Science, University of York

Hi All,

We would like to recruit people with disabilities to take part in a large study about the accessibility of websites.  The study involves carrying out straightforward tasks with a range of websites and then answering straightforward questions about the sites. All information is completely anonymous and confidential. Sessions last two - six hours each, depending on your stamina (lots of breaks and refreshments are provided including nice lunch).  The study takes place in the labs at the Computer Science Department at the University of York, so participants need to be able to travel there.  Sessions can be arranged at practically any time to suit people’s timetables.  We are looking for perople with visual, hearing, physical disabilities and with dyslexia.   Participants are reimbursed travel expenses plus £15 per hour for their time.  Derek Naysmith has already participated, so can vouch for us.  If you are interested in taking part, or would like more information, please contact Andre Freire at apfr...@cs.york.ac.uk or on 07510 511820 or Helen Petrie at helen....@cs.york.ac.uk.

Many thanks,

Helen

I was speaking to my sister and my wife earlier about this. Both of them are planning to participate and think the location is very convenient. Even from Huddersfield it is just one train ride to York with no changes and one train back. York isn’t that far away in the context of train travel so even if you don’t have a railcard it won’t be very expensive. Of course, neither Tmara or Zoe would consider getting a taxy to York. That would be daft. I bet most local taxi drivers don’t know their way around York. Can you imagine waiting for a taxi from your local firm to pick you up when you’re ready to go home? You’d be waiting longer than if the train was delayed and if the train after it was delayed.

It is great that this research is taking place locally, because people can just get a taxi to the train station and travel by train. Often research is down south or somewhere very far away. Then it is completely inaccessible for people who don’t want to go on long journeys.
