Subject: {KVIITM_XI_A_2012_parents} RE: communication in textbooks

Dear fellow parents,

Apparently, there is a confusion in the minds of some parents whether I wanted something from the parents by forwarding the email given below. To make it very clear, as the forward itself mentioned, it was only for the kind information of the parents of the XII A students. Earlier, I had forwarded the relevant email sent to the school Principal, and yesterday's email was in continuation of that. That is the way I work.

This effort is not going to help our children. It is to ease things for the future generations of students, and I see this as one of the ways to effect that in a holistic sense. I do believe strongly in it, and if I see a way of taking things forward, I will, as long as my interest sustains itself.

Further update: I did get a response from Professor Contractor - he is no longer on the textbook committee. Based on his input, yesterday, I sent a similar email to the chairperson of the NCERT textbook committee, Professor Jayant Narlikar. Within a couple of hours, I got a response from him saying that he will consider it as soon as he returns from his trip abroad. Let us see whether anything happens.

best,
gk

Dear Professor Contractor,

Greetings!

Trust that you are doing well. It has been a while since we chatted with each other - the previous time was during the PhD viva voce of a student in CESE for which you were the chairperson, and I, the external examiner.

My daughter, Sreshtaa, is currently in XII standard at KV-IITM, and I help her with some subjects. While going through the initial pages of the chemistry textbook, I felt pleased to find your name on the textbook committee for XII standard chemistry.

Can I request you to look at the attachments for a case for improvement in communication of the textbook material? The relevant emails through the school principal to NCERT are attached below, and I have not heard anything about the request/offer made to NCERT, from him, thus far. If there is something that can be done from your position on the textbook committee, it would be helpful to the future students.

I should add that the case is made on the basis of XI standard textbooks. I did not find your name on the committee for XI standard chemistry textbook, last year. The XII standard textbooks in chemistry and physics do communicate better, although there is significant scope for improvement in the biology textbook. However, some chapters in XII standard biology, and some chapters in XI std. physics/chemistry/biology textbooks do communicate well.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

best regards,
gk
