Dear Prasad,
I have been closely associated with the RSI program, right from its inception, and have participated at all levels - short-listing, selection through interviews at city schools, some organization for the Biology part, giving lectures to RSI students, as well as mentoring them on their short projects. Moreover, the initiative was taken by my alma mater - PSBB, in association with my other alma mater, IIT Madras. Thus, I feel a personal closeness to the program.
It is indeed a very good program, and the students who are selected are very bright; a better rounded-ness, and not just academic brilliance, is also given importance during selection. We have had some students from KV-IITM, Chennai, who have participated in this highly selective program. One of them, Abheek DasGupta, who did his RSI project with me, is currently a student in our Department at IIT Madras. Of course, it needs to be made very clear to the parents that the selection to the RSI program does not in any way guarantee a seat in a IIT, which is a common misconception.
Thanks Prasad, for forwarding the application form. Let me forward this to all the parents of XI A, and request them and the class teacher, Ms. Vedapathi, to spread the word around to the other section (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science) too.
best regards,
gk

Dear GK:
I hope you are aware of a program called 'research science initiative' (RSI) for class XI students. I am introduced to this scheme recently and informed KV principal (please see the email below). Since your daughter is in class XI, I am forwarding an attachment which contains details about RSI. Probably some other parents may also be interested. We are running a little bit late as far as the deadline for applications is concerned, but hopefully interested students may get a chance.
It is a good opportunity for those students who are interested in science.

Dear Sir:
A document is attached to this email. It contains the details of RSI (Research Science Initiative) and the application form. This is only for students in XI class. It will be a great opportunity for those who wish to continue higher education in science since they will get an exposure to IIT Madras laboratories through this program, once they are selected.
I think one or two students from KV IIT madras joined this program earlier. I am not sure. Probably your teachers may be aware of this.
The last date is December 24th. However, my colleague Prof. Mangala Krishnan, has requested the RSI coordinators to keep the gate open for KV IIT Chennai students.
Kindly urge the bright students to utilize this opportunity.
