I am indeed Sairam (not Sriram), formely a resident of Sector 1 in Bokaro (at the other end of the street from St. Xavier's) and used to ride the bike to school with Chugh, Ravi and Pasricha.  It's great to be back in touch with folks from 30yrs ago and I will add my details shortly.  I am a technical klutz (I don't even carry a cell phone regularly!) and it may take me a few days to figure out how to upload the info.  Will be in touch individually also and, hopefully soon, in person on my next trip back home.

Hello all,

 

Here's my 'profile', although I have no idea what's supposed to be in a 'profile' - looks like I am the first one to submit one in this group.  I only spent 3 years in Bokaro and KV1 and it is likely that many of you won't remember me.  Below is a summary of my life post-Bokaro:

 

  - 1981:  Left Bokaro after a short, but very eventful and memorable 3 years from 1978 - 1981

  - 1981 - 83:  Classes 11 and 12 at KV IIT, Powai, Bombay

  - 1983 - 89:  Medical School at JIPMER, Pondicherry

  - 1989 - 95:  In England: at various hospitals for clinical rotations - completed training in Anesthesiology and later switched to Psychiatry due to a worsening back problem

  - 1995:  Moved to the US in preparation to start formal Residency training

  - 1996 - 2000:  Dallas, Texas - Residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Geriatric psychiatry

  - 2000 - Present: in St. Paul, Minnesota: clinical practice of Geriatric psychiatry with additional interest in management of chronic pain

  - 2009: Ravi leaves me a message from out of the blue, while he was in San Francisco on business.  We met in Bangalore last year and he led me to this group a couple of months ago.

 

Personal life: Married for about 15yrs to Suchitra ; no kids.  Interests:  travel, hiking, reading, Vipassana meditation.

Personal appearance:  short, skinny and VERY bald!!

 

Fond memories of KV1 Bokaro:

 - daily conversations with Ravi, Hemant Chugh and Ashwini Pasricha on the daily ride to and from school.  I believe we solved many of the major problems of our society - if only someone had paid any attention to us!

 - playing the game 'Name, Place, Animal, Things' compulsively with Sanjeev Saluja - his competitiveness was amazing! 

 - enjoying a hot 'singhada' (called samosa in other parts of the country, I believe) and jalebi at the school canteen, especially on winter mornings

 - Sunil Soman's supply of surgical blades, courtesy his mother, a nurse ; thank you also for paying for some of the above singhadas and jalebis!!

 - school-boy crushes, aided by efforts of noble friends like Hemant Lanjekar

 - Panda's comical antics

 - being part of an English play, directed by Mr. K.K. Shukla 

 - the 'biological transformation' of the mid-teen years and the pleasure of discovering certain.........Ahem.......visual publications with friends. I distinctly remember one afternoon at my house in the excited company of Srivastava, Ravi and possibly Chugh perusing one such 'periodical'!

 

On that slightly salacious note, I'll end my 'profile'.  Sorry if it got to be too long - the memories just came gushing back.
