Fahaheel Expressway by The Poss.

This was the expressway from Fahaheel in the south to Kuwait City.

David and Mazda outside mousehut flats by The Poss.

Looks like this was a wet day. Roads were made up by this time but not the pavements

David & Alison by The Poss.

Dressed as pupils on Kuwait's National Day. Physics prep room of Kuwait English School.

Camels by The Poss.

These are at Jahra north of Kuwait City. At the left background you can see the typical water towers

Alison in Mousehutch at Amstrad PCW by The Poss.

Alison working on the Christmas letter in the Salwa flat (so small they were called the mousehutches) . The computer was an Amstrad PCW which I bought second-hand from a student. Although IBM PCs were available these were the days before Microsoft had taken over the cyber world.

Kuwait Towers by The Poss.

The large globes are water reservoirs which need to be high to provide the necessary pressure. The uppermost globe on the right is a revolving resturant.

CamelRaces2 by The Poss.

Picture taken at the Ahmadi (Kuwait)camel races in 1984. The camels were ridden by young boys.

Fahaheel fish market by The Poss.

Fahaheel is a town a bit south of Kuwait City

Gold Souk Kuwait by The Poss.

In Kuwait City this is an area of several shops all dripping with gold. In Britain this would be impossible as our judges in their red dressing gowns are nice to criminals but in Kuwait they wallop them, so there aren't all that many on the streets.

Kuwait English School by The Poss.

This is the school just after it was built

KES Physics laboratory by The Poss.

KES villa by The Poss.

This is Kuwait English School when I went there in 1983. There was a separate infants department but this is the main block in just a villa. Some sheds were added as extra classrooms.

Salwa Flats by The Poss.

The small Salwa flats near KES where I spent a nice couple of years in the block on the left - top floor back. Fine for one person.

Roadsign by The Poss.

Well the tired old joke has it that the airport departure lounge is the best place in Kuwait and this sign points the way

Salmiya flat by The Poss.

This is where I spent my 3rd (hermit) year in Kuwait. The computer on the table is a Sinclair QL that had tiny tape drives and used the TV as a monitor. Many's the time I woke up with the TV on and a glass in my hand - suspect that Kuwait TV was more soporific than the wine.

Salmiya Hardees by The Poss.

A Kuwaiti answer to MacDonald except of course the hamburgers were that only in name.

Salwa Flats by The Poss.

These are the flats I spent 2 years in at beginning of my time in Kuwait. The 'hadji' shop far left was a hairdressers which was very convenient/

Salwa view from flat towards KES by The Poss.

This is looking from our final flat towards the Persian Gulf. KES is behind the block of shops - in the middle was a newsagent who always called me 'Mr David.

water tanker by The Poss.

Water tanker being used to fill the tanks for the 'garden' opposite. In later years the area was connected to main water supply although it was still fed to tanks on the roof of blocks of flats.

wedding lights by The Poss.

Kuwaiti flat completely covered with lights for a wedding. This is the sort of display my ostentatious neighbour strives for but fails miserably to come anywhere near matching

Alison at KES by The Poss.

Alison in the infant courtyard of Kuwait English School (overlooked by the seniors department's physics laboratories.

KES Alison by The Poss.

Alison in her Kuwait English School classroom on National Day. Dressed in schoolgirl's uniform.

Crowd by The Poss.

Water tanker deliberately sprays a happy group of boys at the Ahmadi Camel Races.

Camel Races by The Poss.

A couple of camels at Ahmadi (Kuwait) camel races. Didn't seem to be much racing action but quite a lot of interesting crowd scenes.

the dust storms chill bones, i would not want to be there during the
storms. it's not easy for the us solders in iraq.
anyhow, thanks for putting this together, brings back many kuwait
related memories.
cheers,
ik
