Dear Dara,
We have recently made 400 chullahs in the Okhalkanda are with the help of ARTI, a resource group based out of Pune. Our success rate in terms of acceptability is 75%, which is not bad at all. Okhalkanda block has most homes cooking in open fire places inside their homes! We would be happy to have people visit Okhalkanda, see the chullahs, and try to spread them in as many mountain homes as possilbe. The addition of a secondary air inlet increases the efficiency of combustion and has reduced the consumption of wood by around 50%. The wood used is also of thinner diameter, all working to reduce the drudgery of women.
We also have knowledge of making the Danish `masseovne’ (essentially Finnish design) and you can see that in operation in the hospital. Also working on the simpler rocket stoves. Have a ready model at home, waiting to be fired. Aarohi is spreading these models on a turnkey basis.
Love
Sushil
