I have a problem with the voice output of the Kurviger Pro App: I have my mobile in my pocket and just get the voice output to a bluetooth headset. However this does not work. I start the route, the first announcement is come (e.g. "Turn right in 300 meters") and that's all... No more announcements at all the the app remains silent until you stop and start the app, then you will get one (!) next announcement.

Not sure if this is due to the Kurviger App (I didn't find any other complaint here), or if it somewhere in the android energy settings (Honor 8, Android 7)? However other routing Apps (e.g. Google Maps, OSMAnd) are working with the same settings.

Any hint is appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

currently the Kurviger App does not work when you lock the screen. We are aware of the issue and working on fixing it. There is a workaround available in the meantime, see this link.

Best,
Robin

Thanks Robin, for confirming the issue. Then I at least do no go on looking for some energy saving options on my phone. Looking forward to the fix and maybe try the workaround.

Kind Regards,
Marc

Having the same issue. Glad it's a known problem and not just my device.  Will try the workaround, but am not super thrilled about having to install another app to make this work.

Hi John,

I would kindly ask you to give this some time :). The app is still in the beta phase. We are actively working on this issue and try to resolve it.

Best,
Robin

I agree that this is a big issue ... Do you have any idea when this issue will be fixed? ... I know there is a "workaround", but I would really like to know about the solution.  :-)

Hi George,

this is one of the next things on our ToDo list. We cannot promise a date, but it should be fixed soonish. We take this issue very serious, especially as it's an issue for quite a lot of users. We are working on it :).

Best,
Robin

Hi everyone,

To clarify the case, do we mean navigation with app being in background, e.g. start navigation and press home button to hide it or press power button to close screen?

This is already at first positions in our schedule!

Hi there,

That is a mandatory function (for the app to continue to function in the background), but that is not what we are talking about here.

We mean that when you turn the screen off (to save battery ... or because you just want to listen to the point-to-point directions by voice ... or whatever) that the app should not shut off. If you are navigating using Google Maps, for example, you can turn off the screen and put the phone in your pocket and still receive point-to-point directions by voice.) ... Make sense? Hope that clears things up.

Robin-

I went for a 3+ hour spin yesterday, using the work around. It worked as advertised and it was nice having voice navigation as I am not familiar with the area I was riding in. The only issue that cropped up was that Kurviger had me routed down dirt roads. As I ride an old Flying Brick, I opted to 'manually' route around them. When I stopped for lunch I put a check in the "avoid dirt roads" box and all was good from then on. Thanks for a great app; well worth the upgrade to Pro!

Regards,

-J

Hi John,

glad to hear that! Depending on your location Kurviger might use dirt roads, especially when using extra curvy and avoid main roads. Happy to hear that you had a great trip. I reckon the Flying Brick handled the dirt pretty well, it's good bike!

Best,
Robin

Hi Marc, John, and George,

I am glad to let you know that the Kurviger app, as of version 1.1.12 now supports navigation in the background or with the screen turned off.

We are always happy to receive feedback regarding new features and if there might be something that can be further improved.

Cheers,
Robin
