Hello. If I already have a GPX file which is mostly off road can Kurviger

1. Follow the GPX file which will entail off road riding and not try to navigate me back onto roads?

2. When I load the file is there an option for the app to navigate me to the start of the route?

many thanks.

Hi Michael,

> 1. Follow the GPX file which will entail off road riding and not try to navigate me back onto roads?

This really depends. Kurviger is not generally restrictive about off-road, but if Kurviger cannot find a passable road, it will try to get you back on the road. You can always only show the GPX track and follow the track, but you won't have turn-by-turn instructions then.

You can always try to import the GPX file on the website or in the free app and see how it behaves.

Yes, no problem.

1. You have to load the gpx track as "overlay".
Otherwise Kruviger will try to build a route out of the track points. If there is no road between to trackpoint, kurviger will try to find a road based route to the next trackpoint. But that will be different to your gpx track.
If you use "overlay", kurvig just displays the track on the map.

2) If you load the track as overlay, you have to set a waypoint (target) at the begining of the track. Kurviger can then route to that point and navigate turn-by-turn.

Thanks for the replies. I would only want to follow the uploaded gpx so if I can do this then great.

I would want to navigate to the start of the GPX so again if I can allow the app to also do that it looks like I'm good to go.

I'll maybe try it with the free app and try to navigate.

thanks for the help.

Hi Michael,

Sure. The free app does not provide you with actual navigation, but just the follow mode. If you are actually going on a longer offroad trip and want to rely on the app, please do yourself a favor and get the pro app and download offline maps, as you never know the connection quality in the middle of nowhere. If you don't need navigation, the app works 100% offline. If you don't like it you can return the app and get a full refund in the first 48 hours, via Google Play. The free app needs internet access to render the maps.

Best,
Robin

Thanks Robin. I will wait until the weekend and download the Pro Version then which seems more sensible.

I'm going to upload an off road GPX file then

1. ask the app to navigate me to the start of the GPX on road

then

2. Just follow the GPX like for like and not letting the app try an re-route me.

If it all works well then it's a keeper.

If you have any tips on the above for me i.e. if I need to turn anything off/on etc to achieve this then please shout :)

all the best
Michael

Just go to "Hamburger symbol" on the left side of the screen, chose "routing" then "import".
Chose your gpx file
then change "overlay/routing" to "overlay" and press ok.
=> your gpx should be visible on the (online-) map.

zoom in to the gpx start.
then press your finger on the map for 1-2 sec, and chose "set target". Now the route will be calculated.

Press the "start routing" button at the bottom of the screen and enjoy !

Hi Ditmar. I've now downloaded the Pro Version and have followed the instructions below.
But when I zoom in to the start of the route and press for 2 seconds it doesn't give me the option to "set target" only "set start" "add via point" "|set end" "extent route" "round trip" "show address"
If I set start I cant then find anyway to navigate to the start i.e. if I press the directions arrow at the bottom it just says "no route"

I haven't downloaded any maps yet as I presume it will pickup from my wireless and GPS on the phone
many thanks

You can press and hold the position button, the app switches into follow mode. You might also want to auto change the orientation by pressing on the compass and select gps.

Hi Guys. Sorry I got my timings wrong. I purchased the app but I am not able to test it like I want until the weekend so I have had to ask for a refund.

But I hope to purchase and test as I want this weekend.

One thing I noticed straight away which is also the same on your website when planning a route is that postcodes are not accurate. For example I put in my home postcode of L36 5TS which should show up as Beech Road, Huyton, Merseyside - but it doesn't come up with this on the app or online.

I tend to rely on postcodes to navigate so this is a minus for me straight away.

Do you think this will improve in the future?
many thanks
Michael

Well,
Kurviger relies on the maps from openstreetmap.org
AFAIK whatever you are searching has to be in the map - and postcodes in the Liverpool area seem to be rare in the map.

You may be more lucky with "L36 0UX" which seems belonging to "The Sylvester Primary School"
Searching for "Beech Road" or "Tarbock Road" should come up with some close results as well ;-)

Remember, the idea of Kurviger is to find nice and curvy roads for motorbikes.
It even tries to avoid city centers. Address search is just a nice add on.

Cheers
Manfred

Hi everybody,

Maps / Geocoding / Routing are separate entities, so each can mix different sources.

e.g. maps can render external elevation data or POIs if needed, merged with OSM elements.

Regarding Geocoding search, such improvements like post codes are already programmed, so stay tuned!

Hi Michael,

good news, we added another geocoding provider that offers UK postcode search. I this fixes the issue for you.

Best,
Robin
