Hello,
I have another question:-)
Is ist planned or possible already to be able to import and export .KML files in Kurviger pro?

I would like to create a map in Google My maps, export it to a .kml file with a route and pins/Bookmarks and import it then in kurviger pro app. Or create a route with pins/bookmarks in Kurviger pro and export it from kurviger pro app to import it in googgle my maps as a centralised backup.

Before I found Kurviger, I used maps.me because I could do that. This is a very convenient way to migrate bookmarks/pins and routes from an app to another and most of my previous maps are created originally  in my maps from google.

I love Kurviger app more and more but all my pins/bookmarks are either in Google maps, my maps or maps.me so I don't know how to import them in Kurviger.
Thanks again,
Andi

Hi Andi,

I am happy that you enjoy Kurviger more and more :).

> Or create a route with pins/bookmarks in Kurviger pro and export it from kurviger pro app to import it in googgle my maps as a centralised backup.

Kurviger allows to export routes as .kml already. Importing .kml files is not possible at the moment. We only allow importing .gpx, .itn, and .kurviger. You can use programs like RouteConverter to convert a .kml to .gpx. Google allows to import .gpx files, but not to export them.

Problem is that there are too many formats (just look at how many formats we allow to export - and these are only the major formats).

Cheers,
Robin

Hi Andi,

regarding bookmarks, could you explain what you mean with that? Is this the same as the bookmarks of Kurviger? How would such a file look like?

Yes it is the same as bookmarks of Kurviger but you can organisse and export/import by list or with a route. In Google my maps or maps.me, you can plan a route and you can add bookmarks in another layer (like the POI you want to see or specific location you bookmarked) as well.

You can otherwise make a map with only bookmarks for example, you export them in a .kml file then, so you can share your bookmarks with other people or softwares. You can as well separate your bookmarks in different list to be able to manage and share them by list/ file. Using kml. files  to export and import bookmarks is a good way to do that as you can reuse your bookmarks between all your applications.

Andi

Ah now I understand. This should be possible via the route import function. You can only import as overlay. This will show the bookmarks and the tracks you exported from Google My Maps (or any other source). We cannot import .kml files at the moment, so you would have to convert the files to gpx first.

We can have a look at importing .kml files, but I cannot promise anything ;).

Thanks. I am making some tests currently but I seem to loose the bookmarks name/descriptions in the process.

Hi Andi,

maybe Route Converter drops the name? We show name tags in the bubbles. If you click on the blue waypoint bubble of the overlay, you will see a bubble showing the name of point.

Also see this wiki article, that describes a similar approach for Passknacker points.

Hi, Yes that helped at least on the webapp version, will test it on my phone too:-) Need more test but at least had a successful results with one of my kml converted and imported as overlay! This mean I can adapt my workflow, doing my planning like I did before by researching the POI and setting them as pins (bookmarks) on google my maps, exporting them in kml, converting them in gpx and importing them in krviger as overlay and do my route planning there.

Is there a way to convert a gpx file into a kurviger bookmark file, so I could have on my phone differents bookmarks files (Like restaurants, hotels, viewpoints, waterfalls, specific trip POIS) so I can import them when I need to see them?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

The gpx files store any names in their respective fields, e.g. see for waypoints.

> Is there a way to convert a gpx file into a kurviger bookmark file

".bookmark" files (like ".kurviger" offline route files) are app specific formats to make more convenient the sharing and backup of these data.

I can put in todo list the option to import gpx "waypoints" and convert them in bookmarks on map.

And can think for kml support also in future versions. :)

You should be already able to use gpx files for this, only select overlay, no routing. Loading GPX files as overlay, does not require a working internet connection.
