Installing Kurento on Ubuntu 17.04

Hi team,

A friend of mine has been trying to install Kurento Media Server on Ubuntu 17.04 for the last week, without success. He has looked up on serveral forums and found that KMS is not yet supported on Ubuntu 17.04.
Could you please confirm this piece of information ? If yes, when do you plan to support it ?

Has anyone else experienced such difficulties on Ubuntu 17.04 ?

Hi,

I've been trying to install KMS on Ubuntu 17.04 with the intention of letting you know a set of steps; but it has been impossible due to some fundamental changes in the distribution.
KMS depends on libraries such as libjasper, and libjpg, which Ubuntu has decided to remove and/or rename in 17.04, so currently it is not feasible to even build the packages without direct modification of the source code and restructuring the dependencies.

I'm afraid that it won't be possible to install KMS on the latter version of Ubuntu. We don't offer support for intermediate test releases of Ubuntu (such as 17.04), and currently can only offer support for LTS versions of Ubuntu supported by Canonical, which means 14.04 (Trusty) and 16.04 (Xenial). We'll add support for the next LTS version when it gets released (supposedly 18.04).

Any update on this? Ubuntu 18.04 is already available, and I'm getting problems to install KMS on it...

                        Depende: gstreamer1.5-plugins-bad (>= 1.7.0~0) pero no va a instalarse

                        Depende: gstreamer1.5-plugins-ugly (>= 1.7.0~0) pero no va a instalarse

                        Depende: kms-elements (>= 6.7.0) pero no va a instalarse

                        Depende: kms-filters (>= 6.7.0) pero no va a instalarse

You can install it dockerized if you want.

Do you have instructions for dummies somewhere? I didn't find them in
the Kurento docs, just only for Amazon AWS images...

KMS support for ubuntu version 16 and it's well tested on ubuntu 16.

 So try with ubuntu 16

Although I agree that Ubuntu 16.04 works better for us now. The port to 18.04 is still in the state described in that post.
