You might be a Kurdish citizen and one among 35 million Kurds
without a country. Kurds have been denied their rights to role their
motherland Kurdistan since the allied divided the middle East after
the fall of Ottoman Empire in world war one in 1920s.
The on limited access of the World Wide Web has credited the
opportunity for us to feel the freedom of our nation in virtual world,
a world free from violence, bold and killing. A world that the
innocents do not have to lose their life for a basic right declared to
all human being on this planet by United Nation. An organization,
which the occupier of Kurdish land namely Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria
are also members.
A forbidden language, a denied nation has found a world of freedom
to create a national electronic archive online by its own, where they
can freely document their history, Geography and etc.
The release of the news "Palestine Wins Internet Home" has given
the KUCS the idea to apply for the dot-ku (www.your_name.ku) top-level
domain for Kurdistan. We hope that the Kurds can at least find peace
on Internet and not be the target for any kind of Human right
violations for their basic rights. KUCS refer to the latest news about
the Kurds from Reuters "French Socialists Want Europe Conference on
Kurds (Reuters - 26 Feb 2001)".
In a desperate world under economical interest the death of 7000
civilian Kurds by Iraqi chemical gas attack in 18 March 1988 in one
single day could not get the world to find a solutions to Kurdish
issues in Middle East but a boat of 1000 Kurdish Refugees on the coast
of France in Feb 2001 has got the world leaders to face the tragic
faith of Kurds. Kurd has no home!
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is
the non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility
for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment,
domain name system management, and root server system management
functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA
and other entities. There are two types of top-level domains, generic
and country code. Generic domains were created for use by the Internet
public, while country code domains were created to be used by each
individual country as they deemed necessary.
Country-code top-level domains in the Internet domain-name system
are designated by two-letter codes ("alpha-2 codes") shown on the ISO
3166-1 list maintained by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/
MA). That list consists of codes given in the UN Bulletin "Country
Names" and in the code list of the "Standard Country or Area Codes for
Statistical Use." There is also provision for assignment of codes by
the Maintenance Agency in certain limited circumstances in response to
a request of the affected national government or national standards
body. The ISO 3166-1 list is used worldwide in many applications
involving coded information concerning names of countries and of
physically separated dependent territories. Kurd has no Standard
Country or Area Codes!
rather than the example of Palestine, one could follow the example of
Katalonia (.ca), which managed to get its own top level domain. Their
main argument was "it's not about a Catalan state, it's about the
Catalan language.
All these things have been checked out in the past. Besides the
political trouble there is a technical problem. There must be hosting
and nameserver capacities be provided, which costs money and would be
a task for the KRG.
