Kurdish youth and student groups in America collaborate to host an
all-day
celebration of Kurdish culture through art, music, dance and more




WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, September 26, 2009,
Kurdistan Student Organization (KSO) at George Mason University,
Kurdish Youth
Club- D.C. (KYC-DC) and Kurdish American Youth Organization (KAYO)
will be
hosting their first annual D.C. Kurdish Festival of Arts, a
celebration of
Kurdish unity, culture and diversity through the visual and performing
arts,
and other activities.

The first part of this event, beginning at 11:00am and concluding at
5:00pm,
will include a "Kurdish Art Exhibit", presenting the works of Kurdish
artists
from various parts of the United States, a "Poetry Jam", featuring
displays of
Kurdish poetry as well as performances by Kurdish poets, a "Dance
Workshop",
teaching complex Kurdish dances by members of Kurdish dance groups, a
talent
show entitled, "Kurdistan's Got Talent", where Kurds can showcase
their talent
before a panel of judges and the audience, and a "Mr. and Ms.
Kurdistan 2009"
beauty pageant for children ages 5-12. During the day, there will be
clowns,
face-painting, games and prizes for children, and light pastries and
refreshments will be served.

The evening event, beginning promptly at 7:00pm, will feature a
"Colors of
Kurdistan" fashion show, showcasing unique and colorful traditional
clothing
from different regions of Kurdistan, as well as musical and dance
performances
by a diverse array of artists. Dinner will be provided.

This event is suitable for all ages and is open to the public.
Everyone is
welcome and encouraged to participate. There will be a one-time
admission
charge of $10, or $5 with RSVP, due by September 25, 2009.

The D.C. Kurdish Festival of Arts has been organized by independent,
non-profit Kurdish youth organizations (KSO, KYC-D.C. and KAYO),
dedicated to
preserving and promoting Kurdish culture and heritage, as well as
keeping the
spirit alive for the next generation. This engaging, interactive and
informative event provides an opportunity for everyone to experience
Kurdish
culture and heritage, while celebrating the talents of Kurdish youth
and
encouraging them to expand and pursue their interests within a
supportive
community.
