Uhuru is Winner in Repeat Election
President Uhuru Kenyatta was today declared winner in Kenya's October 26 repeat Presidential election. Kenyatta got 7,483,895 votes which was 98.26% of all the 7,616,217 valid votes cast in the repeat election. Uhuru's winning figure was about 90% of the votes he got in the October 8 election which was nullified by Kenya's Supreme Court on September 1. Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati described the repeat election as free, fair and credible. Chebukati said IEBC was unable to hold elections in 25 constituencies in Nyanza but those failed elections did not affect the final result.
Kenya's opposition coalition, Nasa, is expected to return to the Supreme Court to challenge result of the just concluded repeat election. NASA has said it will not recognize Kenyatta's victory. Nasa has threatened to swear in Raila Odinga as president should president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta be inaugurated. NASA has also been pushing for a second repeat presidential election in 90 days.
