Fresh Elections Will Be on October 26, 2017
Kenya's fresh presidential elections will be held on October 26.  In his announcement of the new scheduled date, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the change was to ensure the commission is well prepared in light of the Supreme Court's judgment delivered yesterday, which ordered for fresh elections within 60 days from September 1.  Chebukati said the judgment has impacted on the election operations and in particular on the technology to be deployed. He said IEBC is  reviewing the whole judgment to understanding all the implications on the fresh election. In the judgement the Supreme Court ruled that
IEBC failed to transmit election results electronically as required by the law.

IEBC moved the date for fresh elections to October 26 in order to give the computer company, Safran Morpho, enough time to update/upgrade IEBC's election technology in readiness for the fresh election.  IEBC is supposed to have consulted both Nasa and Jubilee before announcing the new date for the elections. The new date happens to be Uhuru Kenyatta's birthday.  Uhuru was born on October 26, 1961 - he'll be 56 on October 26!

I'm reading conflicting reports on Twitter. Not too long ago I read in one online paper that Raila has rejected the date. Then seconds later, in a different online paper, I read that RAO & Uhuru met at former Mbugua funeral in Kiambu & exchanged congratulatory words, each saying he'd concede defeat if he loses in next election. There was a picture of them both (an old one no doubt) smiling. What's the truth.. Is IEBC ready for 26 & is Mr. Notorious gonna make more demands. Praying & longing for peace & daily life to go on in Motherland. Waithĩra
